Mrsideways Posted April 22, 2009 Posted April 22, 2009 Would enlarging the hood scoop to the intercooler on a Subaru or Mini fall under point modification number 13 under engine... 13 -->Modification of the OEM air intake/box, air filter location, air piping to the turbo/supercharger/throttle body/intercooler/ carburetor, or hood/fascia/fender air inlets +1 And would someone who already has already made an intake modification not receive any additional points for enlarging this scoop? Trevor57 Posted April 22, 2009 Posted April 22, 2009 I don't think there is any argument that you could make against taking points. Modification of the OEM air intake/box, air filter location, air piping to the turbo/supercharger/throttle body/intercooler/ carburetor, or hood/fascia/fender air inlets +1 Quote

Modification of the OEM air intake/box, air filter location, air piping to the turbo/supercharger/throttle body/intercooler/ carburetor, or hood/fascia/fender air inlets +1 Thats right AND if you take the point for #13, you can do ALL the listed mods for no additional points. All of them. Quote
Mrsideways Posted April 22, 2009 Author Posted April 22, 2009 Ok, Now this one is Iffy.... what about providing a path for the air to flow once it exits the intercooler? (ie, make a actual tunnel on the oppsite side of the intercooler rather then just emptying out onto the top of the intake and injectors.) Quote
Trevor57 Posted April 22, 2009 Posted April 22, 2009 It depends on intent. Why are you directing air? If you are trying to improve the airflow path to the IC it doesn't matter WHERE the piping (or whatever you are using) is. It matters what the mod does. Quote
Mrsideways Posted April 22, 2009 Author Posted April 22, 2009 It would hopefully do two things. Work as a head Shield for the intercooler and 2ndly duct air away to improve flow through the cooler. Quote
soundguydave Posted April 22, 2009 Posted April 22, 2009 Hell, even a "performance" air filter, excepting a direct drop-in, is going to cost you that point, so you might as well go whole-hog.... Quote

FREE mods: 12) Air filter upgrade (without modification of the air filter housing or air intake system) You can use a free flowing drop in air filter for no points. That 1 point does cover quite alot of mods. Probably one of the best 1 point mod on the sheet! Quote
soundguydave Posted April 22, 2009 Posted April 22, 2009 Right! As I said, excepting a direct drop-in. I agree, though, that one solitary point basically allows you to re-plumb the entire intake track all the way to the throttle body... Quote
IGZOSTD Posted April 23, 2009 Posted April 23, 2009 Being that I like to start s#!t Turbo cars should take 5 on this and n/a should be 1 , another lopsided point assessment in my view Quote
kbrew8991 Posted April 23, 2009 Posted April 23, 2009 That 1 point does cover quite alot of mods. Probably one of the best 1 point mod on the sheet! depends on the car thats about the most useless 1pt mod out there for my car Quote
IGZOSTD Posted April 23, 2009 Posted April 23, 2009 (edited) That's how it is for me Ken . I did the re-flash , new intake and aftermarket air box for just a little TQ increase . I did spend a lot of time on the dyno fine tuning the car and that did help . Turbo cars are great just not in the game plan for me at this time Edited April 23, 2009 by Guest Quote

kbrew8991 Posted April 23, 2009 Posted April 23, 2009 Well then Toyota did it wrong fixed... engine in the wrong place, econobox design with tiny cams & ports, etc, etc... It'd be embarrasing to get outrun by that Quote
