ELECTRIC FUEL PUMP QUESTION

Recommended Posts

Posted

All,

while driving on the track last weekend my car (Porsche 911) shut down it acted like I was out of fuel .

back in the parking lot I tried to start the car but the pump wasnt sounding off like it was running. done for the day . after getting home, I did get the pump to start working but the car still would not start , I disconnected the fuel line between the pump and the motor and cranked it over, again the pump sounded like it was running ok but no fuel was pumping out ..the electric pump is a bosch. Is this an obvious pump issue or should I be also be looking for something else ?

Thanks for the help

You can test the pump by applying 12v to it and see it the pump runs. If it turns over, but does not appear to pump you can remove the pump and attach on end to a hose in bucket and see if it will actually pump fluid.

It could have broken the impeller off the pump. Hence the pump running but not pumping.

I have removed the pump, put a hose on it, put the hose in a can of fuel hooked it up to a battery , the pump is spinning inside but nothing is pumping out it looks like need to go parts shopping ...

thanks for the input
