bpanther Posted May 4, 2009 Author Posted May 4, 2009 When you register for the $99 camp fee, the link implies its 9/10 to 9/13. I plan on running the Weds test day - so probably arriving on Tue evening. My whole crew will be in attendance (me, myself and I). Am I covered from when I arrive until Sunday, or is my camp reservation only good starting on 9/10 (Thur)? Thx The garages, RV spots and camping are good starting Tuesday the 8th.
Members Dave K. Posted August 4, 2009 Members Posted August 4, 2009 If I pay the $99 for camping, is it first come first serve anywhere in the areas marked open free paddock parking on the map?
bpanther Posted August 5, 2009 Author Posted August 5, 2009 Dave, Yes. All of the open paddock parking is first come first serve to everyone. The $99 camping fee is just for those that will be staying overnight. This is what Miller charges us to provide security, extra trash, showers, etc.
BETO Posted August 15, 2009 Posted August 15, 2009 Is there a designated area for camping? All I see is pavement, are we supposed to set a tent on the pavement? BTW, all the maps should point North up, the paddock map is upside down, it creates confussion when you see that and then the satellite image.

BTW, all the maps should point North up, the paddock map is upside down, it creates confussion when you see that and then the satellite image. It's prett much all pavement. If you need dirt, there is some just North (uuu down) from the showers on the West (uhhh right) end of the pavement. You are right on the maps. Since I plagerized the drawing, I don't have any control over the orientation of the original text. Best bet is to rotate the pdf till North is up.
BETO Posted August 15, 2009 Posted August 15, 2009 Ok, I see the dirt. It's just easier to set the tents on dirt than pavement, and my back will appreciate it, age is a problem when you sleep in a sleeping bag
BETO Posted August 19, 2009 Posted August 19, 2009 After some reading I learned there is no "camping" (camping is in a tent for me) space (provisions per MMP website) at Miller. I'll be there this weekend and see the facilities and from there decide if I can afford to go to Nationals at all since I don't have the budget for a hotel/motel/rv, it sucks "If you are a participant and would like to camp on-site please contact Kelly Warrick at (435) 277-8027. You must reserve and pay for this BEFORE you arrive on site. Note that paddock "camping" is in an RV only - we do not have provisions for tent camping. None of our RV spots have water hookups. A limited number of spots have power hookups available - call early to reserve. For additional information about tent camping or spectator parking and camping, please visit our Camping and Parking web page." If you find the "camping and parking" link please post it.
Jon lee Posted August 20, 2009 Posted August 20, 2009 Quite a number of folks just sleep in the back of their trailers. I would suggest that you call Kelly though.
BETO Posted August 20, 2009 Posted August 20, 2009 Quite a number of folks just sleep in the back of their trailers.I would suggest that you call Kelly though. I wish I had an enclosed trailer, mine is open. Might be able to set the tent on top of the trailer though, never done it, but I'll give it a try. I'll be there this Friday and talk to the organizers to see if there is a problem camping on the surrounding "dirt" areas. Otherwise, the back of my suv will be my home for four nights

Are you racing the MPRA or just coming up for the test day? If you are racing on Saturday or Sunday I'm in the Black SM#93 (Wasatch Beers w/the flames and the ram). Dahl360 here on the forums (Tyler) White SM#70 and DKizerian (dave) will all be out there and can help direct you the appropriate direction. None of us will be there on Friday.
bpanther Posted August 20, 2009 Author Posted August 20, 2009 I asked Miller for clarification "They can camp in the crushed asphalt on the west end of the west paddock or they can camp in the dirt in lot F."
Members Dave K. Posted August 20, 2009 Members Posted August 20, 2009 I asked Miller for clarification "They can camp in the crushed asphalt on the west end of the west paddock or they can camp in the dirt in lot F." Both of these areas are west of the west paddock. very close to the showers and to the Turn1 Grandstand (best place to watch the start of any race!) They're alos both quite large areas, so running out of space should not be a problem.
Eric J. Posted August 20, 2009 Posted August 20, 2009 I'll be pitching a tent out there somewhere tonight. There's some grass right in front of the showers, but I don't know when the sprinklers turn on (it's obviously irrigated), or they'd be annoyed if I planted myself there. After I said I was just pitching a tent, preferrably on grass, the guy at registration said any of the normal "camp" (e.g., rv) spots (which are paved, yuck) or alternatively just waved generally at the west end of the west paddock. I'm going for close to the showers neart the T1 grandstand. If I can get somebody to nod approvingly I might hit the grass near the showers. BTW, the Tooele library has WiFi (I'm there now), but it has some annoying traffic filters on it. My email client can't log onto any mail servers (I use three different ones) and, horror of horrors, Facebook is blocked (nooooo!)...
Members Dave K. Posted August 20, 2009 Members Posted August 20, 2009 SHOboy, I'm going to go out on a limb and say they wont like you on the grass... Its taken them a LONG time to get the grass to take root, and a bunch of tents on it for 4-5 days probably wont make them too happy. I'll come down this weekend and say hi

BETO Posted August 26, 2009 Posted August 26, 2009 yeah, I saw the grass area next to the showers, and eventhough I didn't ask any of the people mentioned above, I don't think they will allow camping on the grass, not to mention the sprinklers at least twice daily. I saw the gravel pit, very compact and hard, just like concrete or pavement. I pass on the camping, at least not worth $99 for me. Found a motel for $55/night, ac, tv, private shower, and queen bed just 10 miles from the track. I spent the night on the back of my suv just to try, and not worth the savings. They should have a more developed camping area, besides that, the track is amazing, first class accomodations everywhere, the garages are awesome, so are the offices, and the track surface.

Mike B Posted August 26, 2009 Posted August 26, 2009 I will be arriving by car 24hrs behind my team. Where is entrance for camping? The same as the main entrance? What do I need aside from saying "Im with this team". Camping registration has been done already.
Members Dave K. Posted August 26, 2009 Members Posted August 26, 2009 Use the main entrance (upper right corner on the satellite photo) I'd guess that the only functioning entrance for this event will be the main one.
BETO Posted August 27, 2009 Posted August 27, 2009 The "camping area" is at the end of the front straight, on the upper left side of the satellite pic where all that dirt is if you are setting a tent. The paddock drawing is upside down. The general parking area is the pavement right next to it where you can spend the night if you have an enclosed trailer or rv. It is very big, the entire complex is huge. The showers are very nice, clean, and private.
