Members Scott G. Posted May 5, 2009 Members Posted May 5, 2009 Two sets of bearings in 2 years. I want to see what it would be like to make it a year without losing my bearings. Quote
Tim Comeau Posted May 6, 2009 Posted May 6, 2009 First of all, NO ONE requests a flyby in the Navy. On a carrier, the airboss would rip your head off and *&^% down your wind pipe! So enough of that funny, silly, topgun stuff. I'd check out your oiling system to make sure there isn't a problem. You either don't have enough oil or there's a pressure loss somewhere. Might be due to a bad bearing(s) somewhere or the oil pressure relieve valve. Oil pump sleeve could be slipping? Crank bolt should be massive 151 ft/lbs. I've only seen one 944 Spec car with an accusump. Chas Wirken's 924S. Quote

I run SpecE30 and although we argue about the various causes, we go thru bearings awful fast. I'm rebuilding a bottom end after 9 months of hard track use. I ran a crank scraper and a qt high on oil. When I bought the car I had to replace it's bearings only 3 months later. I posted this here because it's one of the more heavily used subforums. The "Tower, this is Ranger requesting a flyby", is a reference to me getting in big trouble at Roebling Road last year when I went off on turn 9 and went behind the tower before getting back on the track. I was accused of going behind the tower at full speed and almost banned from the track. The video and data would later show that I creeped behind the tower at 9mph. It is a true-ism among all Infantrymen that pilots are insufferable. We especially hate it when they stand around the club in their nomex with chicks on each arm. Quote
Karl Zimmermann Posted May 6, 2009 Posted May 6, 2009 Ranger, Have you checked the crank journals? What clearances are you running? Quote
Sterling Doc Posted May 6, 2009 Posted May 6, 2009 Be sure you've got adequate oil cooling as well. Quote
Weston Posted May 6, 2009 Posted May 6, 2009 Run oil with lots of Zinc (ie ZDDP) in it. I've personally witnessed very good things with Valvoline VR1, despite some pretty extreme abuse. Most other modern oils just don't have enough in them anymore. Quote

Spec944 #143 Posted May 8, 2009 Posted May 8, 2009 I am actually pulling the accusump from my car as I still had #2 spin. You would need to have it cleaned. I will put this disclaimer that I had one and still had an issue so i am not sold on accusumps. send me a pm. Quote
