AIX9
Why is it NASA has switched to a two year harness requirement? Does NASA know something the safety industry that certifies harnesses does not? If I buy an expensive 5 year FIA harness why does NASA condemn the harness at 2 years? Costs are up, economy is down and grassroots is losing touch with the common man again. If a harness is certified, leave it certified.
King Matt
"Why" is it? Because it isn't. Did you even make an attempt to crack open the rule book? FIA belts are accepted for a five-year lifespan and have been for years. From the current CCR: 10. All belts should meet at least one of the following: A) SFI Specification 16.1 or 16.5 (for use with HANS only) and shall bear a dated label of no more than two (2) years old. At least one date label is required on belt sets. B) A restraint system meeting FIA spec #8853/1985, 8853/98, or D-###.T/98, including amendment 1/92 may be used. FIA certified belts have a label that shows an expiration date. The belts cannot be used past December 31st of the year shown on the label. At least one date label is required on belt sets. AIX9
Didnt matter at Cal speedway, wasted an entire day searching socal for new harness instead of practice.
Holster Maker
Then somebody at cal-spdwy doesn't know the rules. Carry them and be prepared to enlighten the un-learned dumb a** and go about your practice day.
robbodleimages
Yea, my harness (Racetech) is valid thru 2012.
Aaron B
WOW! that would really cheese me off- if I showed up for a race weekend and the tech inspector prevented me from participating because he/she did not know the CCR....Matt brings up a good point print them off and take them too the track with you! I know I will....luckily haven't had this problem in my years of NASA comp here on the east coast.....maybe they will reimburse you for the harness you purchased....that you did not need - don't be too hard on them they were trying to stimulate the down economy you spoke of
Frank Corkran
....Matt brings up a good point print them off and take them too the track with you! I know I will.... There's a thought... -> CCR 23.1.
