Weston
Here's video from Sunday (5/17/09) at Pueblo... We had a standing start (rare, but I love them), and due to a pretty much random qualifying order (good intentions, but it didn't work out fairly at all), I started from the back and had to work my way through the field. I got a good video out of it at least... Weston
Weston, we can we expect to see some of the other video from the weekend? I hope to have more this Sunday/Monday... Work has sucked this week, so I haven't had much energy left the past few nights. I have footage from me, Chris, Chuck, and Eban to go through... chris_venturini
Finally got my Sunday video up, I'm working on Saturday but that's even more finicky for some reason. Can you count how many times I fix my mirror? http://videos.streetfire.net/video/944-Spec-NASA-Rocky-Sun-5_683410.htm

Weston
due to a pretty much random qualifying order (good intentions, but it didn't work out fairly at all), I started from the back and had to work my way through the field. Not random at all. It was based on finishing order of the prior race . Can't really catch other 944's when AI/CMC cars ridiculously over-power us on the straights, then just get in our way and slow us down in the following turns. That was a major random factor because some of us had to deal with that in different sections of the track than others, so we all got held back by different amounts. I'm sure there were good intentions (and it worked out well at more balanced tracks like Hastings), and I'm all good with doing chase races, but using this to determine our starting order for a points race really isn't fair. After all the horrible luck I had last season, and all the time, money, and effort that I've put into fixing my car so that I could race on mostly level playing field this year, it's really frustrating to continue to be prevented from doing so. 944-Spec#94
Weston, When it comes to traffic you just need to deal with them. It is a part of racing and lost time racing a viper. Yep went back and forth dealing for 2-3 laps until finally I just blocked him on a short straight so I could pull a gap. Now ideally in Az we push for split starts so we have our own green flag. This allows 944 to race other 944 only for at least a few laps. Then we have faster traffic go by or hit very slow traffic. The best thing is that it puts those cars turning similar lap times, but doing through hp 20 seconds infront of us on track. As such we really don't catch them as much. Weston
Well, I didn't want to get into a whole big thing here... I was just sharing my feedback so that the problems are known and hopefully the same thing doesn't happen again. I can't expect them to read minds, nor do I expect them to change how they do things for me alone or any other one person... just take it into consideration as honest feedback from a paying customer. I like that NASA-RM tries new things, but sometimes despite the good intentions, things just don't work out as intended, and that needs to be realized. I'm not mad or meaning to blame anyone, I'm just frustrated because it's yet another setback, after my own series of major mechanical setbacks last year nearly caused me to quit racing entirely. I really don't need more things to help push me over the edge here. My car is finally mostly fixed and competitive again now, so in some ways it's even more frustrating to continue to be knocked down by things outside of my control. But since you brought it up... Mixed class racing is one thing, but mixing with a very different high HP class on a high HP track while I'm trying to get through an inverted and spaced out field is great for putting on a show, but not for an actual competition. I can't really block a car that's doing 130+ on a wide 1/2 mile straight while I'm barely breaking 100 mph... not without being a reckless jackass, at least. And meanwhile, other 944's are getting passed in much more preferable sections of the track, so they aren't hardly getting held up at all. That's all fine and good when it's just a fun and games session, but unfortunately it had a major impact on our following points race. The results resemble randomness far more than they do a normal qualifying order or an invert, and that's what got used for the starting order of our points race. I could go on, but I'm really just trying to voice my concerns without being overly critical here. It suffices to say that I really just want to start our 944 points race in the position that my qualifying times earned me, or even a whole field invert or some invert of season points would be fine too. I just want something that at least resembles a level playing field... that's why I got into this class in the first place.
944-Spec#94
Weston, I don't know the details of what went on, but I have raced for 7 years with most of those races mixed group. We routinely have 400 hp vipers, vettes or Porsche cup cars racing with us on 1.5 mile track. Around here you need to learn to deal with these cars passing you in such a way as to minimize their impact on your momentum. It is just a part of racing and a good race will use that traffic to their advantage. Even then you just catch it wrong and lose ground. Traffic is really one of the things that makes racing less like a long TT than anything else. To be an effective racer you need to manage traffic. It IS a hard skill to learn, but essential. As I've said, it definitely wasn't your regular mixed-class traffic situation, and the results of that session clearly show that. I've said my piece, so let's stop rubbing salt into this wound before things get needlessly negative.
Weston
Saturday Main Race video: http://www.rm944.com/events/2009-05-15_17%20Pueblo/Sat%20Main%20Race.wmv It's mostly from Eban's car, and he got a pretty good view. My camera needed to be tightened up, and Chris' had a bunch of red lines in the picture for this one session (I filtered most of it out, but compression had made a mess of it). Big Dog
Great video, Weston. I love the rear camera and the track map with your position on it. It really adds to the video to have both of those features. Now, here is where the novice comes out. How do I down load the videos to the computer so I can watch them without having them stopping to rebuffer? Big Dog
