codeblack
Where can I find a tether to attach to my camcorder and harness bar I checked the rules and it doesn't state what type of strap it has to be. I'm assuming a nylon strap of some type would be OK can someone tell me what you use. Thanks
edhunter
The strap on mine is just a 1" wide thin nylon strap, like what you'd find for a bicycle tiedown strap... The clasp is a lightweight spring clamshell type fastener (does that make sense?) Anyway, it's nothing heavy duty that's for sure...

codeblack
I'm a little confused. The tech inspection sheet for PDA, HPDE's states the strap is to be around the camera and the NASA rule book states tether from the harness bar to the camera. I guess I'll call PDA to confirm unless someone can set me straight.
soundguydave
Basically, for NASA, they want to see two forms of retention: a screw/bolt from the vehicle to the camera as a primary mount, and a tether that will restrain the camera connected to the vehicle as a secondary form of retention. In a nutshell, if the camera mount fails in a crash, or other situation, the tether is there to keep the camera from becoming a projectile inside the car. Most common is a rollbar mount that clamps to the rollbar and has a thumbscrew to mount to the bottom of the camera (like a tripod mount), and a tether that wraps around the camera (through the handle) and cinches it to the rollbar. Headrest-based camera mounts are NOT legal with NASA.
gte024h
Headrest-based camera mounts are NOT legal with NASA. That's odd... for all the NASA HPDE events I've been to my CruiseCam headrest mount passed tech without a blink. Perhaps they aren't legal in the racing classes? Meat
I've also used the CruiseCam mount without problems. What I was told was that it was fine as long as there was metal-on-metal contact and a tether was used.
sscguy
I think the idea with illegality there is that you have a metal rod pointed generally at the driver's head/neck. In the event of an accident, who knows what could happen. That's my understanding at least.
