RenaissanceMan
Hey everyone- Just burned through my latest set of R888's at Barber and was thinking of trying something new... I've had 3 sets of R888's so far, and I dig them, but I'm hearing that the NT-01's are a pretty comparable tire. I've also heard good things about the Hankooks... Have any of you had any experience comparing these tires on the same vehicle? I've been getting about 3-4 weekends out of the 888's, a couple less than I was getting with RA-1's. Do the NT-01's offer similar longevity to the Toyos? Any feedback is greatly appreciated!
kbrew8991
the one thing to watch out for is the points between the 'kooks and the 2nd tier stuff (R888s, NT01s) I'd be curious to hear the feedback on what the choice for longevity is in the +7 category. I think in the +10 category the BFG R1 might be the way to go from what I've read (good and bad) even over the 'kook.

I'm mostly curious to find out if the NT01's offer any more longevity than the R888's. I'm actually good on points right now to go to +10, but I'm trying to find something in that 2nd tier range that I can beat on, weekend after weekend. I'm going to pick up a set of R6's to use 'in reserve' once a couple more checks come in...
loudes13
buy em and let us know. I would *guess* lap times and wear to be similar between the r888 and nt01.
KTL
What car are you running? Some makes of cars hate the R888. I know the Porsche guys with 911s are having a hard time sorting the R888 and go with the easier to tune NT-01 or complain incessantly that they want the RA-1 back
ninetyfourintegra
I ran the kooks for all the dry sessions at nationals, 2 race weekends (PT) and getting ready for my 3rd (plus a lapping day in there for good measure). Still quite a bit left and I've run my fastest laps in the the last 2 times I've run them. Best points I've spent... Was on RA1s.
RenaissanceMan
I had spent some more time researching this and the word on the street from those who have run both _seems_ to be that all other things being equal, the R888 is slightly faster, but the NT-01 lasts longer... Varkwso
I liked the NT01s on a 3100 pound Vette - not as well as R compounds though. I do not care for the R888s on a 3300 pound Mustang....

You must be thinking NT05 because the NT-01 is an R-compound. Same compound as the RA-1, which is similar to the R888. The compounds have some similarities. The NT01 is not a "true" R compund (7 pt instead of 10 pt tire). It will not hold with a 710 or R6 much less an A6.. The R888s are not as good as RA1s (one reason they are switching back in several series) and it is good to have you back!
