T&A Racing Posted June 13, 2009 Posted June 13, 2009 We blew up our tranny this weekend, will need to replace it. What are the best choices, we were running a stock t5 in our Fox Body Mustang. We run in AI so were at 330 hp and 345 torque. Any suggestions would be helpful on type model and gearing. Thanks Mark #76 AI Mustang Team UBR Quote

You can get the road race 5th gear, .82. Available at several suppliers. Cost is around $2,200 not including a clutch system. Quote
stevepoe Posted June 14, 2009 Posted June 14, 2009 Mark,' this just came up local to me. http://cincinnati.craigslist.org/pts/1220430869.html Quote
ST#97 Posted June 15, 2009 Posted June 15, 2009 T56 from an 03 cobra...heavy but strong as hell and uses stock mustang clutches with 10 spline input shaft. Quote
Members Jay A. Posted June 15, 2009 Members Posted June 15, 2009 Tremec TKO600 with road race 5th gear .82. The only way to go. Try Hanlon in PA. Very helpful and they understand road racers. They do rebuilds as well. http://www.hanlonmotorsports.com/ This is a mom and pop shop. I like to suppor the little guy. Jay Andrew Quote
AIX9 Posted June 15, 2009 Posted June 15, 2009 TKO 600 for sure, have run one with no issues in AIX (540hp at flywheel) with no issues for two years. Bulletproof and fast shifting. Best money I ever spent. Quote
robbodleimages Posted June 16, 2009 Posted June 16, 2009 I dont know anyone with a TKO that is happy with it. That doesnt include those here. I have a T56 mated to a 370tq 351w and have never had the first problem. Its heavy but I am content. Quote
Frank Corkran Posted June 16, 2009 Posted June 16, 2009 Another TKO 600 w/.82 5th here. Big improvement in gearing over the 3550 with .68 5th I used to run but I never had any trouble with that trans either running 355 rwtq. Bought it in 2000, only went to the TKO last summer because it was just slightly more expensive than having Hanlon convert the 3550 to use the RR 5th. Nice to have a backup handy anyway. When I converted I put the stock '96 31-spline driveshaft back into the car (I was running a 28-spline Fox shaft with the 3550) and replaced the King Cobra 10-spline clutch disk with a 26-spline Centerforce Dual Friction disk from FRPP. Oh, and I had to wrap some electrical tape on the nose of a $2 GM clutch alignment tool to make it fit tight into the Ford pilot bearing. Quote
swhiteh3 Posted June 17, 2009 Posted June 17, 2009 I've been very happy with my Tremec-built TKO-600. Used it behind my 400+hp 383ci motor, and now it will be behind my AI 331ci motor. Quote
UBR Posted June 17, 2009 Posted June 17, 2009 Thanks for the replys everybody. Mark is out of town so I figured I'd reply. We ordered a Tremec TKO 600 and all the parts we'll need to get it in (bellhousing, yoke, clutch) yesterday. Should be here by the end of the week. With our measly 350 lb/ft of torque, we should be good for a while. Quote
