John Graber Posted June 19, 2009 Posted June 19, 2009 I was just thinking, how many ways are there to annoy Greenbaum and how many issues can he juggle at once? Considering every post comes with seven paragraphs, four quotes, and three hours of research, there must be a limit somewhere. I think he has a job, and I know he's always changing bushings on his Neon Should we find out? Lets see.... ECU Flash Fuel Injection Ball Joints Unfair Base Classing And my favorite...I'm slow so stop screwing my car classing Who's with me now? Perhaps a little humor would ease the recent mid-yar tensions.... Quote
kbrew8991 Posted June 19, 2009 Posted June 19, 2009 staggered tire size unfair assessment what factors go into base classing/weight assignments there's more I could come up with, but I've gotta get back to it Quote
kbrew8991 Posted June 19, 2009 Posted June 19, 2009 resurecting the points for parts method ditching the "base model" as the bench mark for what is considered OEM adding 3 door wagon style hatchbacks to the 4 and 5 door aero correction factor moving SRT4s to SUR base class adding back in guest car classing (ie Spec Miata = TTE, etc) I'll come up with more later... TurboShortBus Posted June 20, 2009 Posted June 20, 2009 Do you really want me to chime in here? Not likely, but... It has never been my intent to annoy anyone, but if that's what happens when I request clarifications or explanations, then that's not my problem. Mark (a somewhat less than satisfied customer) QUICK, LOCK THE THREAD! Quote
Members Shawn M. Posted June 20, 2009 Members Posted June 20, 2009 These are my most favorite ones recently. Enjoy my take on them as they appeared to me.... the exhaust rule are tooooo hard. (stomp foot, make pouty face.) and: "Hi, ive only done 1 HPDE event yet im an expert and can tell you the rules are terribly wrong and you need to change them........all". and: I choose to interpert the rules in a artsie sort of way and therefore I shall not take any points for any mods I have on my car. How dare you call me a cheater! and my favorite: Ive never done a TT event but you all have scared me from ever doing another event, ever! Goodbye! its been very entertaining the way ive seen things! Just a little insight on Gregs real life. He works 70+ hour week at the hospital. In his "off time" is a single dad of 2 whom he drives 6 hours to get his kids, spent as much quality time with them as he can and then returns them to their bio mom. Somewhere in there he deals with about 30-60 NASA related emails a day. Somewhere in there he has to find time to change out his bushings before the next event. Quote

AZELISE Posted June 20, 2009 Posted June 20, 2009 Greg, I need the base class for the following car: Edsel chasis with a K20 motor swap. The K20 drives the front wheels. I put the engine from a 2008 Citreon in the back to drive the rear wheels. I swaped the stock front suspension with unequal length control arms with the friction dampers from a vintage Formula 1 car. The rear suspension is swapped to strut type with 2 way dampers. I am not sure how many points to take for the shocks since I can't get a price on the friction dampers. Quote
National Staff Greg G. Posted June 20, 2009 National Staff Posted June 20, 2009 Can I play too? Grand-Am Cup non-DOT Hoosiers should only be +5, like RA-1's--just because. R888's should only be +5, because if car setup is not changed, they are no faster than an RA-1, but more importantly, I can't find two extra points to play with anywhere else. Non-DOT slicks should only be +15 because I have a friend that can get me one heat-cycle take-offs from NASCAR. The +5 assessment for Forced Induction cars is not fair because it automatically bumps some cars out of their base class. That is SO RIDICULOUS AND ABSURD, I can't believe that I'm even staying with NASA. The +5 assessment for Forced Induction cars is not fair because it needs to be +15 since these guys can get big power gains with just a reflash. That is SO RIDICULOUS AND ABSURD, I can't believe that I'm even staying with NASA. I can't do the calculations on the increased displacement and increased compression ratio, can I just guess on them? I know I'm allowed to re-class by Dyno so I wouldn't have to worry about them, but the nearest Dynojet is 30 miles away, and I only have two months before my next event. Why does Greg hate Corvettes? Why does Greg hate Porsches? Why does Greg hate Evo's? Why does Greg hate S2000's? Why does Greg hate every car model ever built, especially rotary engine models? (except, of course Neons) Taking a point assessment for an aftermarket fuel pump is unfair. I know that Nitrous Oxide injection is illegal, but can I spray it on the intercooler (yes, some may go into the intake by "accident", but it is not being injected). I can't understand the exhaust rules, please make all exhaust mods No-Points, or at least simplify them--+3 any changes and +2 headers. Are you guys really considering making me take 3 points for a muffler or cat-back exhaust--You SUCK! It's not fair that some cars have to take points for certain modifications, while others get them for free. Some turbo cars must take points for boost controllers and wastegate actuators, while others can just use a No-Points reflash. Some double wishbone suspension cars must do control arm or ball joint mods that cost points, while other cars get camber/caster for No-Points. Are you sure that no 1st or 2nd generation Miata (except for the turbo) every came with an LSD as a standard feature? I think that mine did. Even if it didn't, it is not fair that I have to take LSD points. My shocks cost $2500, but now they cost $2399 after the distributor changed the price because of the NASA rules. I know that the rules say that if one changes to Tubular K-members that it cost +2 points. I would just like NASA to explain why. In fact, I would like NASA to explain and defend every rule they have. I propose a 10 page thread on each of the 100+ assessed modifications. I realize there is a process to request a rule change, but I would rather play here, and request an "official" ruling over and over---although the rules are not in question, and are clearly stated. When is a control arm not a control arm? My car had a modification on it that is not on the No-Points list, and is not on the assessed points list. I realize that under the rules, the part is therefore illegal. However, it doesn't really do anything--well, it does, but I didn't use it. I asked (insert any of the following here: Turbo Short Bus, my tech inspector, my friend, my mechanic, my mom, my fifth grader, my dog, a professional racer, my tire guy, etc) and he/she said that your rules don't make sense to him/her, so just assume that the points are the lowest possible (or no points). The Aero rules were too complicated before, and I had a hard time understanding what to measure and where--or so I said. Now, I have to take a few more points than last year. Can we please go back to the rules that I couldn't understand but I took less points? If only I had more time, I could add at least a hundred more to this list. I like this game! Graber finally posted something worth reading!!! Quote

John Graber Posted June 21, 2009 Author Posted June 21, 2009 Why does Greg hate Porsches? Damn, how could I forget that one? Quote
Varkwso Posted June 21, 2009 Posted June 21, 2009 Why does Greg hate Porsches? Damn, how could I forget that one? I live with his hate of Vettes day in and day out .... A Vette did unseat a Porsche for the TTA track record at Road Atlanta but one of those dang supercharged Lotus's took the TTA record away from a C5 Vette at Barber ...... With all these cars changing places it must be the rules that are the problem... Quote

Trevor57 Posted June 22, 2009 Posted June 22, 2009 I just put on a "bumpsteer kit." I didn't see anything in the rules about that. +0 Quote
kbrew8991 Posted June 22, 2009 Posted June 22, 2009 I'm going to use the narrowest tire on my car for classing because its "more fair" Quote
kbrew8991 Posted June 22, 2009 Posted June 22, 2009 why are TTG and TTH excluded from competition? Quote
TurboShortBus Posted June 22, 2009 Posted June 22, 2009 Somebody help me out here, as I'm not sure how to take Greg's "TT Manifesto" on the previous page. I have a real winner of a response, but I'm withholding posting it until I get a sense of exactly what he's trying to convey, since (as we all know) interpretations can vary. Mark Quote
