does anyone see a down fall from switching from an 03 cobra t-56 (5 speeds only used, .79 5th) with a 3.73 rear gear, to a 4 speed with the same gearing as the first 4 gears of the t-56 and matching it to a 3.08? rear gear (looking for top end of 160 to 165 mph).

my so called calculations would just be changing the 5th to 4th, and so on. i guess the thing i would be worried about over alll acceleration. the car rarely sees drops into 2nd gear with the t-56. the car is redlining at 6400. thanks!

Is this a race car? Personally, up the redline to 7k on your chip and call it a day. if you don't like that idea, just go to 3.55's....wasn't that stock?

definetly a road race car. dart block, 540 hp and 490 tq.,griggs sla up front, full tiger racing, too much to list. my tuner has me keeping at 6400 redline.

1st-2.66

2nd-1.78

3rd-1.30

4th-1

5th-.80 (maybe .79) same gearing for the 4 spd.-minus the fifth gear.

from the newer calculations i would need to redline the car to 6600-6800 to match the top end of the gears (3.73) with the 3.08 unless i can find a little smaller gear.

i guess the real question is that on a rolling start can 2 identical cars with different rear gears (4 speed vs. 5 sp.) with the same top end speed on 5th(t-56) vs. 4th(new tranny) and so on, have the same or better acceleration.

Find a drive shaft torque calculator program and enter all the dyno info, and gear info and you should find out...if the motor is Peaky with all of it's torque in the upper revs...past 4000, the answer is no. The higher (numerically) geared car will up and walk away until you get into your powerband.
