limp1969 Posted July 22, 2009 Posted July 22, 2009 Just picked up a race car need a harness what do you all use and where is the place to buy Also need roll cage padding Quote
obzezzed350 Posted July 22, 2009 Posted July 22, 2009 Ron at Discovery Parts talked me into a Schroth harness, good for 5 years too. They also offer optional should straps that accommodate a HANS better than standard shoulder straps. Quote
Nighttimedriver Posted July 22, 2009 Posted July 22, 2009 Have you tried SafeRacer.com? Here's a link to their Harness page: http://www.saferacer.com/_search.php?page=1&x=0&y=0&q=harness Quote
mbuskuhl Posted July 22, 2009 Posted July 22, 2009 Schroth harness, good for 5 years too. They also offer optional should straps that accommodate a HANS better than standard shoulder straps. +1 Remember SFI harnesses are replaced every 2 years, FIA harnesses every 5 years. Spend a little more now and save later. Get SFI roll bar padding (very hard foam, not the stuff kids play with in pools) Quote
kbrew8991 Posted July 22, 2009 Posted July 22, 2009 Ron @ Discovery takes care of me - ask for the Sparkle Pony discount btw I've got a G-Force FIA camlock and the nice SFI style padding on mine with the thicker dual density stuff where the cage is close to my noggin Quote
HBennett Posted July 23, 2009 Posted July 23, 2009 Ron at Discovery Parts will definitely take care of you. If you are in the southeast, he attends most of the events. Saferacer is good also but they don't go to NASA events that I know of. Just a small clarification on harness expiration dates. FIA harnesses are good for 5 years depending on the FIA tag. The tag shows the year their certification expires. Could be less than 5 years depending on hold old the stock is at the dealer. I believe, with NASA, the belts actually expire on the month punched on the SFI tag and the year of the FIA tag. With SFI harnesses, I believe they expire 2 years later than the month/year punched on the SFI tag. So you may not get a full 2/5 years use. You should probably check the lates rules on the actual dates. Maybe it wasn't such a small clarification??? Howard Bennett HANS Performance Quote
limp1969 Posted July 26, 2009 Author Posted July 26, 2009 Ok my car has 2 eye s welded on where the lap belt would hook on but nothing on the roll cage behind the seat and nothing under the seat besides a bar which is part of the roll cage. Would I get a wrap around type harness? quick release snap clips can be used on the lap belt eye hooks that are welded on to the cage. What to get? I was looking at this one http://www.summitracing.com/parts/SIM-29112P/?image=large but can I still use the eye hooks for the lap belt with snap clips? Quote
kbrew8991 Posted July 26, 2009 Posted July 26, 2009 you can just un-wrap the harness from the bolt-on tabs if needed and just wrap them around. If you are concerned about what you're ordering and if it will work with your setup talking to a retailer with excellent service and experience (like Ron, plug plug) would be the way to go. Quote
RSCoupe Posted July 27, 2009 Posted July 27, 2009 Crow. They are half the price of other "major" brands, and will re-certify (re-web) them for $75. Quote
