Sterling Doc Posted July 23, 2009 Posted July 23, 2009 I know there are lots of opinions on this, but I was interested to know if anyone has dyno results showing torque curves of various configurations. Having driven several cars this year, the ones with the quieter exhausts seemed to have better torque off corners than my current car with the straight-thru cannister-type mufflers. It's also possible that retarding of timing from my shaved head/low compression pistons is part of this. I'm debating about trying out the cat-back Borla exhaust from my street car in the racecar to see if this helps. I may also go back to the OEM intake box. Quote
944-Spec#94 Posted July 23, 2009 Posted July 23, 2009 Last year at miller I ran the first couple practice sessions with full straight pipe. It was loud. I did not really like it that much. Then I put my stock muffler back on. My lap times improved. I could not tell if their was a hp change, but I did feel like I went through the corners better, but I believe that was due to my being able to hear the motor better (rather than all exhast) and then modulate the throttle precisely. With the straight pipe I was very on/off. I can't say if that was due to torque or not. Quote
Sterling Doc Posted July 25, 2009 Author Posted July 25, 2009 Thanks, Joe. I think I'm going to try it out. I'd love to try it out on the dyno, but budget doesn't look good for that this year. I think I'm going to put on the street car muffler & see what happens. Quote
