QUASAR Posted July 29, 2009 Posted July 29, 2009 Besides the allowable removal of the compressor, can I remove the rest of the HVAC related components inside the car? Is that just covered under weight reduction (since it provides no mechanical advantage). Quote
boomn29 Posted July 29, 2009 Posted July 29, 2009 I believe as long as you still make your min competition weight. Quote
QUASAR Posted July 29, 2009 Author Posted July 29, 2009 I think I might have answered my own question as I take a closer look at the weight reduction section "Removal and lightening of non essential parts is permitted unless otherwise stated in the rules" Sounds like this is kosher then, right Greg? TurboShortBus Posted August 18, 2009 Posted August 18, 2009 See 58) here: http://www.nasaforums.com/viewtopic.php?f=2&t=30041 FWIW, I already removed every piece of HVAC from my car and I'm paying the weight points only. This was fine in another region that I recently visited, as the TT Director there rode shotgun in a DE session and had his feet where the HVAC box would have been. Mark Quote

Mark I sat very quietly since he has some guillotine metal about where a left knee would impact. getting to min wt is one the best things we can do.... Quote

drivinhardz06 Posted August 22, 2009 Posted August 22, 2009 getting to min wt is one the best things we can do.... It would be nice to have a car that didn't make so much power that you actually could and still meet the hp/weight rule Quote

It would be nice to have a car that didn't make so much power that you actually could and still meet the hp/weight rule Start with a TTB FRC - it has a higher base wt - so my sympathy level is low. But once you figure in driver wt I can take a sawzall to the car... Quote
drivinhardz06 Posted August 22, 2009 Posted August 22, 2009 Aren't all FRC's Z51 cars? Z51 C5 is TTA no? Only way I can run 3118 lb is if I run 275's, with the .4 hp/weight adjustment. With 295's, that goes out the window. And with the sub 3200 lb adjustment, you're limited to 352 RWHP (@3118) if I am doing the math right. You'd have to have a sorry 385 hp 01 (and even a sorry version of that) to make that. lol No jason, no scales yet. Hopefully some by the end of the year. need to corner weight my car to stay hot on your tail... Quote
Varkwso Posted August 22, 2009 Posted August 22, 2009 Aren't all FRC's Z51 cars? Z51 C5 is TTA no? l... No you can base class a FRC or C5 in TTB and add points for mods. A straight C5 Z51 is better off by a few points to start in TTA. Chevrolet Corvette C5 (inc. FRC w/o Z51) TTB* 3246 Quote

I am not a corvette history expert but I still am pretty sure all FRC's were Z51, wonder why nasa would denote it as "FRC w/o Z51"? and what are you doing posting on a weekend, I can't imagine you aren't at a track SOMEWHERE? They denote it that way cause I pushed for it and yes stock they are all Z51 - but if you start "base" with your mods (since Z51 is a mod to base) you can add better springs for the same points. I lost making the base tire in TTB in 275 though We just put a complete ZO6 suspension in a 99 FRC (23mm rear bar in 99 Z51 by the way not 24mm like the late Z51 and ZO6) out of Mike's car. My wife flies in from MN at 7:40PM tonight....I figure I ought to be here.... Quote
