BMWdrmz Posted August 8, 2009 Posted August 8, 2009 In the process of building my E46 M3 for GTS 3. Would really appreciate some input from those with E46 M3 that have removed the steering wheel lock mechanism. I tried experimenting on a spare column with a DIY that was provided. Didn't quite work out, so before I try it on the car I thought I ask for some help. Thank you in advance for the input. Quote
maxxfish Posted August 10, 2009 Posted August 10, 2009 I did a writeup on this with photos on Bimmerforums, it's in the track section. Quote
BMWdrmz Posted August 11, 2009 Author Posted August 11, 2009 I did a writeup on this with photos on Bimmerforums, it's in the track section. That's DIY I tried. Not quite sure what I did wrong on the spare. Just curious if that was the only way to remove it before I try it a second time. This was a really easy thing to do on the E36, but seems to be rather complicated on the E46 Quote
maxxfish Posted August 11, 2009 Posted August 11, 2009 Hmmm, I tried it on a spare and the one on my car, no problems both times. Were you able to get the hardened steel pin out? If you got that out, and removed the "catch" that it holds in place, then you're good to go. Quote
