D Algozine Posted August 14, 2009 Posted August 14, 2009 Anyone have an idea of top speed on the front staight at Miller for an American Iron car or simliar V8 car? Thinking about an appropriate rear to use. Anyone...Anyone...? Quote
King Matt Posted August 14, 2009 Posted August 14, 2009 Something in the range of a 2.73 to 4.56 ought to do it. Quote

Red Tornado Posted August 15, 2009 Posted August 15, 2009 Don't know but many of us basically hit top speed at other tracks (VIR and Sebring). It all depends on your aero and gear (5th gear also)but most of our cars will hit between 140-145mph. There is actually a calculator on the web with gear and CD and power and you should get a good idea. I think people with lot's of aero will be hurt at MMP as many guys with weak 5th gears and aero seem to really slow up at 130mph range. Quote

I agree about the 140-145 part as i have been looking at videos of c5 z06 vettes not leaving 4th gear...and were doing rather well. As for the Lots of aero being hurt at MMP....best rethink that. Miller is on par with TWS in our region with turn counts, type and speeds. Aero at TWS...CAN be as much as 2 seconds a lap faster...unless you are comparing to Mike Patterson who is a freak and camaros are very slick anyway. I believe an aero car is going to destroy from Turn 1 to tooele turn, give back a little to clubhouse, then gain a little in wind up and release, then have to rely on excellent exit speed and remain defensive on the main straight. Besides, an aero car with a good ram air setup should be fine on the straight. Our last event had our aero cars seeing 140 to 145 and only moderately hitting the "brick wall" of drag. patterson was doing probably 150-154, but would get killed under braking and the gap would close to zero again. Our Aero cars are in the 2950-3020lb range...Patterson is in the 3350 range. It really is interesting to see very different aero, weight and hp setups somehow remain VERY close in lap times with the AI ratios. Our first race on Saturday had our top 3 cars running within .4 of a second and I ran the fast lap with a destroyed front aero package and parts dangling off the car! Lap times came down as the track rubbered in but an aero car took fast lap of the weekend by over a full second! so I see a VERY close race coming up in a few weeks. Oh, and Dave....3.08's...i'd hate to see you run out of gear so you best be conservative! Quote
