robbodleimages Posted August 17, 2009 Posted August 17, 2009 What was the reasoning behind moving the green flag from start/finish down to turn 1? Quote
stevepoe Posted August 17, 2009 Posted August 17, 2009 Ed, great video thanks for posting it. Hey those miller cup cars that are running with you guys. they ai or aix? I assume if ai they are on r888 or ra1's ? Quote
Members Ed M. Posted August 17, 2009 Author Members Posted August 17, 2009 We actually created a "Miller Cup" class in the SE because we usually get a few at the events and it gives them a place to run without having to change anything plus it gives them their own points, etc... Obviously, they have the choice and can run AIX but most are using the events for testing/track time and don't won't to interfere with the regional AIX points championship (which is very admirable...). stevepoe Posted August 17, 2009 Posted August 17, 2009 got ya, it's amazing the 300hp 3600 miller cars can stay close with ai rule cars. the red fox mustang who is that? B tone ? Quote
Members Ed M. Posted August 17, 2009 Author Members Posted August 17, 2009 What was the reasoning behind moving the green flag from start/finish down to turn 1? They wanted to get most, if not all, of the cars off the hill and on the front straight away before throwing the green. I liked it as well as everyone else I talked to... Quote

No, Tone is the white Fox with the gold stripes. The red Fox is Jim Pantas. He and I are running AIX even though my car is really AI. He's got about 50-60 extra HP than me so I have to really be on the edge to keep him in check. You can see the power advantage on the straight aways... We've had some really good races the last few events... I'm a better driver, he has a faster car...hahahaha (can't wait to see his response to that!!!) Ed Quote

The Red Fox body was Jim Pantas. The FR500S(Miller cars) don't weight that much, I think. The FR500C weighs in around 3200lbs. I dont think the S car weights a whole lot more than that. My view is that these cars are great AI cars. George Winkler is a mid pack Mustang Challenge guy and he is running 2:10 at VIR in the summer heat. The cars that Dean Martin and Rusty Ferguson were running were something of a cross between a S car and a C car. They have some C car suspension goodies, but were running a 4.6L 3v with a cam kit and an intake, C car aero help and R888's. Dean ran a lap in the 1:37 bracket. I believe those cars are power to weight ratio maxxed out for AI. If I remember correctly, the Saturday race front row was Dean Martin(pole) and Zach Lutz(FR500S). The Miller car is a fine AI car. You only need to put 275 wide Toyos on them rather than 245 BFG's. Quote
stevepoe Posted August 17, 2009 Posted August 17, 2009 The FR500S(Miller cars) don't weight that much Weight with driver and fuel is set at 3,600 pounds. from ford racing taken from this http://www.hotrod.com/featuredvehicles/hrdp_0808_2008_ford_mustang_fr500s/index.html Quote
robbodleimages Posted August 17, 2009 Posted August 17, 2009 the 3200lb FR500C weight is a dry weight. So add fuel and driver. Quote
stevepoe Posted August 17, 2009 Posted August 17, 2009 the 3200lb FR500C weight is a dry weight. So add fuel and driver. what possible good is a dry weight. you need someone to drive and you need fluids. also I was speaking about the s cars running at road atlanta not c cars. Quote

I am not an expert, but the S car and the C car are similar bodies on the same chassis. The S car has a lighter engine package and heavier aero. The C car has a heavier motor and more cage, but less wing and no splitter. Their racing weight is similar. Anyway....I think if you look at the S cars race lap times, you will find they are faster than the best AI cars. Change the BFGs to AI Toyos and change the Miller spec GT500 wheels for something lighter weight and I would bet you would have a front of the pack AI car. Quote
brucebyerly Posted August 22, 2009 Posted August 22, 2009 Ed - that was cool watching my car in your mirror! Thanks for posting! Now I need to figure out how to do that with video. Quote
