Mandatory Driver's Meeting at the Naitonals

I just noticed that there is a "manditory" driver's meeting on Wednesday, the optional "test/tune" day. I'm not sure how you can have a manditory meeting on a day that is optional to the racer as I'm sure that you won't have 100% participation.

Our crew and equipment will be there off-loading and setting-up but our driver, who is a college student will not be at the track that day as he has a class that goes until 9PM. If the crew chief can attend in place of the racer then I'll be happy to stand in for him. What are the ramifications if a driver can not attend?

Is this the only driver's meeting planned for the four offical days of the National?

Thank you for any clarification that can be provided to us.

Yeah, that's going to be interesting...

What time are these Wednesday meetings supposed to take place? It's not in the preliminary schedule, and I haven't seen any actual times, just some mentions of "Wednesday evening". If it's 6:30pm like I see on Thursday's schedule, that's going to be tough to make, as I'm 9 or so hours away and driving out there on Wednesday... I know I'm not the only one.

I didn't think it was posted in the original schedule so I was surprised to see it on today's schedule.

The meeting is called for 7PM.

A designated representative can attend in place of the driver, per the Championship supps.

where is the latest schedule anyway?

Thanks for the updates.

Life and schedules change, of course, but in schedule version 1.1 dated 7/1, the mandatory driver's meeting was scheduled for 6:30PM on Thursday, the first official day of racing. Original start time was scheduled 40 minutes after the last run group of the day.

I still think this makes more sense.

What is there to actually cover? If this is one of these "this is a yellow flag, this is what you do when it comes out" kind of driver's meetings...

Guys-

The meeting usually covers general rules, any changes made to the published regs, and also provides an open forum for questions. Most of the Race Directors will also do breakout meetings afterwards to lay down some ground rules and also answer questions. As mentioned above, it's completely OK to have a representative there for you and for my 944 guys I am happy to meet with you later if you miss the break out meeting. We like to have meetings before anyone gets on track for the first day of competition so we can avoid any confusion. I suppose we could move it to Thursday in the a.m. but this might be a crunch as we go live pretty early.

So, no stress and find a buddy to relay info to you if you can't make it on Wednesday night.

Can one person be the designated representative for multiple drivers, as well as a driver? I might be the only one out there wednesday at 7:00 out of 3-4 of us.

Yes this can work. However, if something important is said at the meeting and they forget to mention it - the driver is still held responsible. In your case, this might work well..... "Oops.... Sorry guys, did I forget to tell you?"

You should have one representative for each run group, because there will be break-out sessions after the main meeting for each group, and you will only be able to attend one of them.

Thanks Greg for that Tip! We're all SM, so it shouldn't be a problem... and we might all be out there by 7:00 anyway...
