seat bracket questions

Recommended Posts

i am getting either the sparco sprint(fia 1 piece seat) or cobra monaco(fia as well) 8855-1999 and i had a seat bracket question

both these seats are bottom mount, not side mount

So what do i have to consider when i get brackets, cobra makes a bottom bracket custom for every car for this seat but its a slider style bracket, are these ok?

They dont make any bottom mount solid mounts, but then again, if thats not legal, why is the seat itself FIA approved?

What are the requirements on seat brackets? The cobra ones are pricey, but they are nice, are designed for each car, and have sliders, but they look heavy duty(locks on BOTH rails)

Please help me before i spend money on something htats not legal for racing

umm..as far as i know, fia is an inspection they do on the seat to make sure its strong enough during a crash

I never heard anything about fireproof, i know a bunch of fia seats that are made of regular fabric that will burn, as far as i know

Contact your local tech inspector/regional director. They will help you out.

Nothing in the CCR says you can't have sliders in the car. I know of several race cars that have sliders. This is especially important if you will have different size drivers in the car.

In my car, I have had both Momo & Sparco seats. I have used the sliders from each company. (They look exactly the same, BTW.) They are both FIA approved. In order to use them, I needed to fab up the car so that the Momo/Sparco slider bolted in.

I have also seen people modify the oem mount to work. This is something that I did on the passenger side for a bottom mount Momo. This was back the HPDE days when I used to take passengers.

In either case, remember that a seatback brace will often be required. (Depends on if FIA or not & your local inspector - CCR states that you will need to mount per FIA spec) It should not allow rearward movement of the seat. The way I made this work with my 'adjustable seat' was to have a couple possible positions where I could 'pin' the tube for the brace. If you look @ IO Port Racing's site, you can get a better idea of what I am talking about. I used their seatback brace. You already need to drill a hole for the desired position. I just drilled one for each one.

Hope this helps.
