dbgeek Posted September 3, 2009 Posted September 3, 2009 (edited) 1986 Mazda RX7 Sport $4500 obo If you are looking for an inexpensive, safe, reliable track toy, this is your car. I autocrossed the car in 05, 06, and 07, and tracked the car from '05 to now. The car has experienced very few malfunctions, none of which weren't my own fault. The car is very good on tires and brakes - I have a set of RA-1s with 24 track days on them, and they will go for several more weekends (although they are relatively hard now). Brake pads last approximately 6 weekends. The car made 169 rwhp, 138 lbft with the stock ecu going very rich over 5500 rpms. After tuning the Megasquirt on the dyno, the car made 183 rwhp, 138 lbft. The history: Purchased car with 183925 miles with a dead engine in January of '04. I then found an engine, transmission, ECU and harness from an 89 that had approximately 90k miles for sale up north. I rebuilt the 'new' engine with a rotary aviation rebuild kit. In order to make it run, I created a custom wiring harness to adapt the 86 chassis to the 89 ECU and engine harness. Currently has approximately 197k miles on the odo. The bad: The brake bias will lock up the right rear tire. I never got around to installing a bias adjuster, as the HT-10's in the front and HP+ in the rear minimizes the effect. I also have never corner-weighted the car - it was decent the one time I managed to get on scales in '05. dbgeek Posted April 12, 2010 Author Posted April 12, 2010 I'm not into parting it out yet. If you want to make an offer for parts, I'll certainly consider it. Seats and harnesses have been removed - stockers going back in. Quote
dbgeek Posted July 4, 2010 Author Posted July 4, 2010 Stock seats reinstalled. Still available. Quote
dbgeek Posted July 18, 2010 Author Posted July 18, 2010 Instructor It is built more toward SCCA ITS. In NASA, it would fit into the PT ranks, but there would need to be some points optimization, and possibly a modified tune. The last time I looked, TT and PT add 20 points for making over 180 hp (which most well-built and tuned ITS RX-7s do) because they call it a 'street port'. To be legal for a comp log book, the cage needs additional door bars (which can be fabricated or purchased from ioport). Quote
dbgeek Posted August 9, 2010 Author Posted August 9, 2010 Aaaaaaand the numbers have been removed... Quote
dbgeek Posted August 27, 2010 Author Posted August 27, 2010 SOLD And there was much rejoicing - yay. Quote
