JSG1901 Posted October 28, 2009 Posted October 28, 2009 (edited) 1989 Porsche 944 S2 2008 NASA GTS2 National Champion 2009 NASA Great Lakes Regional Champion This car is arguably the fastest and best-developed GTS2 car in North America. Built on a solid, low-mile 944 S2 chassis (approx 23,000 miles currently) it has been refined over the past four seasons to the point that in the right hands it is virtually unbeatable. Over that past two racing seasons (2008 and 2009), the car has been run primarily in the NASA Great Lakes region—probably the most-competitive GTS region in the country—and out of 26 starts, has amassed a record of 21 wins (including 1 overall Enduro win from the next-to-slowest class and one later disqualified for a pass under yellow), 2 seconds, 8 track records, one Regional- and one National Championship. Fully-equipped and ready to race, the car is maintained by Steinel’s Autowerks in Twinsburg, Ohio and includes all of the following: New motor at approximately 17,000 miles Stahl header Custom exhaust K&N air filter with sealed air box M030 front brakes Titon cockpit-adjustable lever-type brake proportioning valve Braided stainless steel brake lines Two sets of CCW 18” wheels 8.5/10 One set of factory 17” wheels (with 1-use Hoosier rain tires) LEDA double-adjustable coil-over shock absorbers at all four corners Rear shocks mounted upside down for quick spring change (approx 10 mins) Hypercoil springs, 800# front, 1000# rear Spare rear springs, 600, 750, 850, and 900 lb (I’m pretty sure) Full Racer’s Edge bushing/bearing package throughout the car Weltmeister front strut tower brace Suspension configured to allow 285/30-18 tires at all four corners (for much better turn-in, better braking, and vastly better tire wear by being able to rotate to all four positions...typically I get two full weekends out of a set) Fabcar front A-arms Eibach adjustable sway bars front and rear 10mm rear torsion bars for near-zero effect at the tires (allows better tuning with the springs) Full roll cage SPEC aluminum flywheel (used 1 weekend) SPEC racing “puck” clutch (used 1 weekend) Factory limited-slip differential Shortened 5th gear (factory 944 part) Aluminum alternator bracket Lightweight battery Remote power cut-off Integrated fire suppression system both in the cockpit and under the hood Custom rear wing and front splitter Broadfoot Racing fiberglass nose with front brake ducts IFC Racing fiberglass headlight replacement panel IFC Racing lightweight fiberglass hood IFC Racing fiberglass 968 RS hood vent (not shown in these photos) GT Racing fiberglass sunroof Air conditioning compressor removed Headlights and related parts removed Power steering disabled for better steering feel Rear side windows moved out flush with the body (after these photos were taken) Fully-stripped interior including dashboard, heater, fan, airbags, etc. removed, doors gutted and cored, all carpet, seats, headliner, padding, all glue, sound-deadening, insulation removed Removable Lexan windows for hauling and storage Custom aluminum dashboard Wired for Cool-Shirt system Recaro Pole Position SPG seat Momo MOD 7 steering wheel Aluminum quick-release steering wheel hub Lap timer Transponder Nose and fenders modified for tighter gaps and improved aerodynamics Quick-remove nose for easier loading on trailer Side mirrors moved inside the cockpit for reduced drag Wide-angle center rear-view mirror Window net Center cockpit net 6-point racing harness NASA-required 2nd driver’s door bar incorporated in cage Custom paint/graphics Four years of setup notes Overall weight: Approximately 2,600 lbs Horsepower/torque: Approximately 193hp, 195 lb/ft Current lap records o Mid-Ohio Pro Course: 1:38.301 o Mid-Ohio Club Course: 1:40.381 o Putnam Park: 1:18.324 In-car videos: Videos from others showing this car: Sean Tillinghast (first visible around 7:50) Jim Child (most of the race behind me) Blog entries (mostly about this car): http://www.scottgood.com/jsg/blog.nsf/BlogByCategory?OpenView&RestrictToCategory=Driving If you want a well-developed and proven GTS2 car, there is none better than this, anywhere. While the cost is not insignificant, the cost to build and develop a car capable of beating this one will be even higher. Fair warning: If you can't win in this car, don't blame the equipment! Available immediately at $ 29,500 (I'll listen to offers and consider cash plus something interesting. Spec Miata? Other?) Enzo Posted November 5, 2009 Posted November 5, 2009 Scott, I had no idea. Can I rent it for a few weekends? Just kidding ........... If it sells, I hope you're not out for too long... Quote
JSG1901 Posted November 11, 2009 Author Posted November 11, 2009 Note...new price on this and/or I'm willing to consider some kind of partial trade... Quote
JackBaruth Posted December 6, 2009 Posted December 6, 2009 I was garaged next to Scott for many races these past two years. You won't find a better-taken-care-of car. The only problem with buying it is that if you do, and you don't win, you'd be short on excuses. Quote
JSG1901 Posted December 15, 2009 Author Posted December 15, 2009 Thanks, Jack! Price reduced to $29,500. Willing to consider partial street or track trades. Anybody want to swap a Boxster S or M3...? Quote
