CShay6 Posted October 30, 2009 Posted October 30, 2009 Hello, I'm curious about how a time trial race weekend goes. Are the W2W races held the same day? Are all time trial classes on track at the same time? I understand that I will need to be signed off for a TT liscense first but just want to understand how the race day goes. Hopefully I can get signed off this coming year and run my Z06 in TTA. Thanks, Chris Shay Quote
jason Posted October 30, 2009 Posted October 30, 2009 Yes, the day rotates between w2w races, HPDE sessions, and TT. All TT classes are on track at the same time. What region/area do you live in? Quote
sperkins Posted October 31, 2009 Posted October 31, 2009 which region(s) do you run with? A little investigative research reveals that he's in the Milwaukee area. Darn shame. Quote
kbrew8991 Posted October 31, 2009 Posted October 31, 2009 ah so probably Great Lakes and/or MidWest - they run all of their groups throughout the day in rotation every event as far as I know Quote

Weed Wacker Posted November 1, 2009 Posted November 1, 2009 Here in the midwest we run all hpde, tt and race groups each day. TT typically gets 4-5 per day. all tt classes run at the same time on track. If your in the midwest region look for someone on this forum named GAS, hes our regional TT director, awesome guy, super fast and also drives a vette. Quote
CShay6 Posted November 2, 2009 Author Posted November 2, 2009 Hi Guys, Yes, I'm in the Milwaukee Area so I'd like to get to the events at BHF, Autobahn, Gingerman, and Grattan. With all of TT on the track at the same time, how many cars are there at one time? Sounds like it would be a challenge to get a clean lap? I was thinking that you could run old tires in the morning then put good ones on for 1 or 2 sessions to post a good time. That might not work so well with a lot of traffic. What is the usuall strategy? Run 100% all day? Chris Quote
Trevor57 Posted November 2, 2009 Posted November 2, 2009 You will need to figure out your own strategy as you compete, since the same thing doesn't work for everybody. The fields vary from 20-something to 40+. In my experience getting clean laps is not usually a problem, as you are gridded in order of your best lap. Quote
mrc24x Posted November 2, 2009 Posted November 2, 2009 Welcome Chris, I run a C4 in TTA w/ the Great Lakes Region. The usual routine is five 15 minute sessions per day. I would guess 25-35 TT cars on track at Grattan, Gingerman, etc while Mid Ohio can have up to 50? or so. The good thing is the cars are gridded by time. The first session on Saturday sets the grid for the 2nd session. If you miss a session then your best time of the weekend keeps a spot on the grid so you don't have to start in the back. The pole sitter sets a slow pace on the out lap so everyone gets out on track together. I try to be ready to go hard into the last turn before the green and put in 3 -4 fast laps before we hit the tail end of the group. At that point I slow down and stay out of their way before coming in. Fifteen minutes doesn't sound like much but most would rather have the extra session with clean laps instead of four 20 minute sessions. I hope to see you at the crossover events! Take care, Matt Carlyle Quote
jason Posted November 2, 2009 Posted November 2, 2009 Yeah, gridded by time. Go hard from the start, 3-4 hard laps. Once you catch traffic, it's pretty much over. Down here in the SE you'll rarely get faster after lunch, so if all you want is the trophy, there's not much reason to go back out once it heats up. You can run TT very cheaply, or you can run every minute of every session flat out. Quote
soundguydave Posted November 2, 2009 Posted November 2, 2009 I have admittedly limited TT experience, but the general vibe is that all the drivers work together pretty well to get everybody clean laps. Also, many like me, will come off the track once they've nailed out a good, clean, solid lap that they don't think they'll be able to better. A lot depends on tire seletion as well. Many seem to run the Hoosier A6, which gets greasy pretty quickly, so that crew is off track early. I run the R6, so by the time the "A" crowd is pulling off, the "R" tires are up to temp and clean laps are not hard to get... See you next season! Quote
