Members Scott G. Posted November 16, 2009 Members Posted November 16, 2009 Neighbor has a C6 and is breaking into the DE scene. I suggested that he swap out his OEM pads for something more track oriented, but since I know nothing about 'Vette's, I've not the first clue re. what to suggest. I'd like to suggest to him a "sport" pad that might be a decent dual use pad, knowing that it'd do neither all that well. As an alternative, how about a dedicated track pad that he might consider too, as long as it had a usuable temp range that didn't make it suicide for a DD. He's not swapped his own pads out before, but he's a glass of koolaid in his hand and is starting to sip. Quote
jason Posted November 16, 2009 Posted November 16, 2009 Hawk HPS would be an easy step up. HP+ would be next. Carbotech XP8's would probably work too. Quote
kbrew8991 Posted November 16, 2009 Posted November 16, 2009 I've seen people literally set HPS on fire... HP+ minumim.... I am a Carbotech fan, and the XP8s were fine for DD if you didn't mind an occasional bit of squeal and a bit of extra dust Quote
jimbow Posted November 16, 2009 Posted November 16, 2009 I love the carbotechs as well. Currently running xp10/xp8 on my 92. Since I have 4 events in 5 weeks I'm driving them daily as well. Little squeal in the morning and until they warm up. They are 1000% better than the "free" EBC yellow stuff I had on there before. Quote
xcrider2005 Posted November 16, 2009 Posted November 16, 2009 I'd recommend that he uses his OEM pads for his first track day because he probably won't be that hard on them the first time on the track. If he likes doing track days, I'd recommend getting a track specific pad such as a Hawk HT-10 and swap them in for track days (I switch rotors and pads). The HP+ are good for auto x, but I went through them pretty fast on the track. They also seemed to overheat pretty easy. I only have a 165 hp car so my top speeds are nowhere near a Corvette. Talk to Jay from Andrew Racing. He was really helpful picking out a pad and he hooks it up for NASA members. Quote
cmchopeful Posted November 17, 2009 Posted November 17, 2009 I'm running carbotech xp10/xp8's year round and have had no issues even in the winter. Some other things to consider is replacing the brake fluid with something other that stock, Motul, ATE, etc. I also replaced the stock brake lines with braided lines from StopTech. They have a plastic covering to prevent dirt from getting between the braid and the rubber liner. Quote
codeblack Posted November 17, 2009 Posted November 17, 2009 If it helps I'm using two piece Coleman rotors, slotted and Cobalt pads for my C6Z06. night and day from the stock set up. Quote
matt f Posted November 25, 2009 Posted November 25, 2009 carbotech's are extremely rotor friendly. Quote
