Firebird Man Posted November 16, 2009 Posted November 16, 2009 Anyone know where I can find a copy of the Vintage rules? Didn't see them in the general AI rules. Quote

mcmmotorsports Posted November 16, 2009 Posted November 16, 2009 V was disolved 3 years ago...no car count similar to AIX is now. While this may be true, I think you might see it's return in the SE. Quote
kbrew8991 Posted November 16, 2009 Posted November 16, 2009 anyone have a copy of what they used to be stashed away somewhere? AI97 - while we'd like to think NASA revolves around TX region Quote
IGZOSTD Posted November 16, 2009 Posted November 16, 2009 Ken , No the owner lives here in tornado free California Quote
Al Watson Posted November 17, 2009 Posted November 17, 2009 Vintage is cool, but why not run in AI, keeps the competition and car count up? Wheren't the AIV and AI rules similar? Quote
IGZOSTD Posted November 17, 2009 Posted November 17, 2009 AI rules state that 1960 to present American autos, so I would guess your Firebird could race in AI if it meets the listed rules package. just get another set of wheels to run Ra1's . Nice Firebird by the way. Quote
Firebird Man Posted November 17, 2009 Author Posted November 17, 2009 Vintage is cool, but why not run in AI, keeps the competition and car count up? Wheren't the AIV and AI rules similar? I'll find out first hand at Road Atlanta if my car is remotely competitive in AI, but I seriously doubt it will be. Technology has advanced far beyond my cars 42 year old nose heavy, A-arm, leaf spring suspension with the areodynamics of a brick. It and I can get a little better, but there is a limit to what it'll do without major changes. Given equal power a somewhat stock third Gen F body will run circles around my first gen. It'll be a blast either way, but I'd like to be able to compete against similar year period correct cars and be competitive. Quote
IGZOSTD Posted November 17, 2009 Posted November 17, 2009 I didn't want to cut up my 66 Fastback , so thats why I'm building the s197, and the body parts for the new car are much cheaper. You can have the fun, just keep it like it is so its vintage legal Quote
matt f Posted November 24, 2009 Posted November 24, 2009 I'm thinking about using my brother's 68 Torino GT and was trying to figure how to make it "remotely competitive". An AIV class would be much simpler. BTW- Killer firechicken. My first car was 1/2 68 camaro, 1/2 68 firebird. My second was a 68 firebird 400 4 spd car. I miss it. Quote
