Newbie Questions on HPDE

Hello

There is chance that I might be able to run a few HPDE next year in the Mid Atlantic region and I have a few questions

1. Should i just run regular All Season tires or a NON-R Compound Proformace tire?

2. The car currently rides on 215/70/15..should I upgrade the wheel size or leave it alone

3. Should I upgrade to a "Higher Proformace" brake pad and rotor?

I am just looking to go out and have some fun....Im not really looking for door to door racing right now

The car is a 92 Ford Thunderbird with a V6....I ran across a good deal for a possible Track Day/Around Town type car

Thanks and sorry for the poor grammar

For your first track day all I would change would be routine maintenance items. If you need new tires anyway then go with some street high performance tires. Same with the brake pads, if you need to change them anyway then get some good performance oriented pads.

But if you don't need them then I wouldn't buy new ones just for the first track day.

Kind of though so, but wanted to check

Thanks again

If this is your first time in anything on a track then you should get to know how the car acts and what to expect before making changes. Unless you are going 100% as fast as the car will go you wont know if the car got better with changes or if you just improved your skills.

Like said before if you absolutly need tires then replace them, but an all season tire with low tread will help you learn the limits of the car at slower speeds. A more performance oriented tire will require harder driving to reach the limit.

Like the other guys said. Make sure your car is safe. You can change your fluids if they are kind of old. As far as tires and brakes, only change if they need to be changed. At that point you can move up to a performance street tire and performance pads like Hawk HP+ for instance. I would not replace rotors unless they are due to be replaced and I would go with a regular rotor. Don't waste your $ on cross drilled or slotted. Don't spend any $ on any modifications of any kind at this point.

Thanks guys

I figured with HPDE1 I would just need a safe car....I knew i would not need any real proformance tires, but i was not real sure on the brakes....I do not have the budget for wheel to wheel racing so HPDE is my only real way to get on track.....I have been around this track (summit) in the past but only at highway speeds (65-70mph)

Thanks again and I am sure I will have more questions as the time nears
