karluver
Have any of you guys raced on the Shenandoah course at Summit, I heard that it is not really a good race track, but set up more for open track days or schools. I saw on the AIE board that you are going to race there this year. I was thinking about doing some AI races this year and I was curious about Shenandoah. Thanks
Mystic_Cobra
I don't think anyone has raced on the Shenandoah track, because it isn't finished yet. Well, it wasn't a couple months ago, anyway. They keep saying it will be ready and then they keep cancelling events. They don't seem to update their website often and it's not organized very well so it would be tough to find any news if they posted any. Tom Beverly
The track has been finished since October, we (CarGuys) ran it in November. There are several threads about it on cc.com. BSR is currently making several changes to the track in an effort to make it more friendly for racers.
Mystic_Cobra
Good to know. I heard it was very narrow, more for bikes than cars. Is this what the changes are about? Please feel free to elaborate. It sure would be nice if there was a mention of this new track on their website somewhere !!! Thanks for the update. Tom Beverly
Same width as the big track. The turns are tighter, and there are many off camber changes mid turn to keep you on edge. Runoff visually appears to be less then most tracks, but that is mostly because the concrete walls are intimidating (they are 24' from the track in most spots). The modifications are a straight section through the esses, (which are very tight in the current configuration), also a chicane on the up hill section going over the blind hill into the brake zone for the banked turn. If you go over 120mph, you go airborne over the hill, (fun, but not good for club racing). There were several other potential changes that were discussed, but I don't know how many are being implemented. I'm also not certain if they have begun building the runoff/gravel trap at the end of the back straight or not.
Mystic_Cobra
Is there a track map online anywhere?
johnbasf
Jimmy, do a search on CC.com. There are several videos on there.
Tom Beverly
Here is the main one. there are some older ones from before it was finished, but this is the most recent. http://www.corner-carvers.com/forums/showthread.php?t=20000&highlight=summit+track I'll be running the big track with CarGuys on March 4, 5 & 6, so I'll cruise on over there and check out the progress. I'll also try to stop in and see Bill Scott, or Maria, and see what kind of updated info I can get.
