Zvought Posted November 27, 2009 Posted November 27, 2009 Been racing karts and drag racing for a while now. Just sold my last shifter kart and looking to get into this type of racing. I live in Lake City,Florida and was hoping to find some people near by that are currently racing and/or running the HPDE events. From what I have read it seems that the HPDE is the way to go if you are a working class guy that wants to get my comp Lic. My track car is a 1987 mustang coupe with a turbo 2.3 in it. Hope to see some of you out there. Zach Quote

Zvought Posted November 27, 2009 Author Posted November 27, 2009 Reobling is very close for what that experience is worth. Raced there last year in ICC (shifter kart) Thats the best 2+ miles I've ever run! Quote
Landshark Posted December 9, 2009 Posted December 9, 2009 Hello all, Im new to the NASA scene and was looking to start doing some HPDEs to get my feet wet. I live in Virginia and have an 85 944NA that I'd be taking to the track. I was wondering where I need to go to get registered for a race and also what are some "must-do-things" i need to do to my stock car before running it hard for 25 mins at a time? Thank you for any help, I think the first race in our area is Feb 20th at VIR, and I'm hoping to make it. Trey Quote
soundguydave Posted December 9, 2009 Posted December 9, 2009 When to register: As soon as registration opens... Check the region website, but usually a month or two before the event date. What to do to the car: For your first event, just the basics: Do a SOLID preventive maintenance inspection, paying close attention to the condition of the bushings and wheel bearings. Freshen the brakes (NEW pads, cut or replace the rotors, flush the fluid!), and make sure you have tires that are in good condition. For your first time out, you most likely won't be able to use 100% of the car's performance capability, so there's no reason to spend any money on upgrading parts unless the stock pieces are flat worn out. Registration usually opens for mid-atlantic track weekends around two months prior and will be linked from http://www.nasaracing.net as well as https://www.nasaproracing.com/event/ As for the car, have someone give it a thorough look-over as per this form: http://www.nasaproracing.com/images/rules-forms/form_hpde_tech.pdf "must-do-things" to me are... tires in decent condition, fresh brake fluid (preferrably hi-temp), and good front pads with plenty of meat left. Also making sure everything else is up to snuff (suspension, bushings, tie rods, mounts, belts, fluids, etc) of course. Quote
DarkSideDE Posted December 10, 2009 Posted December 10, 2009 If you are going to be an HPDE 1 at a NASA event this year - this is a great program for you: According to this page of the website: http://www.nasa-se.com/1steventfree.php" That's right! When you are ready to try NASA out and take your car out on track in a NASA SE event simply call us - (704) 436-8211 and we'll help you get registered as a NASA member and signed up for your 1st event. It will cost you $45 for a NASA membership, then all you have to do is bring your car, a helmet and your driving enthusiasm to the event and we are sure you'll have such a wonderful time that you'll be back for more! We will put an instructor in the car with you and you'll get hours of track time with hours of classroom instruction. If your friend talked you into it and they are a NASA member then they will get free NASA Schwag! This offer applies to new HPDE-1 students only and those that have never driven in a NASA event. We will have a limited number of free entries per event so you need to register early if you have a particular event in mind. And isn't VIR considered Southeast? Enjoy. Quote
Rob O Posted December 10, 2009 Posted December 10, 2009 And isn't VIR considered Southeast? Enjoy. That is run by the Mid Atlantic region. In the Southeast we run what you see in the post above by laze1. Quote
Landshark Posted December 14, 2009 Posted December 14, 2009 Is the Mid Atlantic region offering anything like this? I live in Va and most SE tracks are 6+ hrs away. I will be in Myrtle Beach soon visiting a college...are there any tracks close to that area? Quote

Lot's of run off and you can turn it into a giant high speed skid pad as your skills advance. Looks like SE has an event scheduled May 22-23 Quote
kbrew8991 Posted December 22, 2009 Posted December 22, 2009 I'll second Roebling as a recommendation - track looks boring in aerial view, but, its one of the highest average speed tracks on that side of the country. Its also deceptively technical. If you do the Southeast event, take a look at also doing the www.seat-time.com day leading up to it on Friday. JonK runs a great school and a very safe event - might as well make 3 great days for the same trip out instead of just 2 Quote
jimbow Posted December 22, 2009 Posted December 22, 2009 From a post in Corvetteforum: Myrtle Beach is not too bad. CMP 2.5 Roebling and VIR 5 RA 6.5 FYI RA = Road Atl. So NASA-SE goes to CMP 3 times IIRC and Road Atl 4 times. If they get AMP built the distance will be similar to Road Atl. Hope to see you out in the SE soon! Quote
