kbrew8991 Posted December 17, 2009 Author Posted December 17, 2009 SCCA ITA and HP don't look like they belong in E3 by the numbers I'm seeing Quote
kbrew8991 Posted December 18, 2009 Author Posted December 18, 2009 oh well on ITA moving guess I'd better push up plans for that PTE build if I wanna keep up with the Joneses. Quote

slammed_93_hatch Posted December 30, 2009 Posted December 30, 2009 why did USTCC get moved back to E1??? The power to weight ratio for the cars are much much much much more along the lines of H1, GA ST, etc... Looks like they are trying to make E3 a class again... I've said it before but IMO, all of the "pro series" cars, USTCC, Grand Am, World Challenge, should all be in ES. The rules and "target speed" are always changing. Look at WC, and the crazy weird new classing they have. WC TC are now ~5 seconds slower then previous. They are along the lines of T3 cars. Quote
Tom A Posted December 30, 2009 Posted December 30, 2009 I edited my post above to show what changed. Surprised to see the Legends and Thunder Roadsters got bumped up, when everything else moved down. Quote
kbrew8991 Posted December 30, 2009 Author Posted December 30, 2009 Jimmy - it looks like almost all of E2 was moved to E3 to make room for some cars to drop out of ES into E0, etc, etc Quote
Tom A Posted December 30, 2009 Posted December 30, 2009 Some of it seems kind of arbitrary. For example, ITA got moved to E3, but none of the GTS classes changed. A pro built 1.8 ITA Miata will put about 130 to the ground, at 2380 lbs. That works out to about 18 lbs per HP, which if it was a BMW E30 instead of a Miata fits in GTS2. GTS2 is mapped two classes higher in E1. Why are all the numerous "retired" NASA classes still in there? Quote
kbrew8991 Posted December 30, 2009 Author Posted December 30, 2009 imho ITA is an overdog for the new E3, but that appeal fell on deaf ears Its about 2-4 seconds a lap clear of the rest of the field. GTS in general is a VERY open ruleset, I'm not sure I'd try and compare IT, PT, etc classings to it. There is more to laptimes than simply horsepower to weight ratios. Quote

There is more to laptimes than simply horsepower to weight ratios. OK, then why did STS2 move down to E0? It is just as open, but can have an “Adjusted” wt/hp ratio up to 8.70:1 8.7 to 1 is roughly equivalent to GTS4, which is ES. Maybe I am wrong, looking at lap times from the last 2 NASA nationals. Keep in mind that the Honda Challenge times would be a little faster as they are not limited to Toyos in an enduro. Times at Mid-Ohio form the 2008 nationals, plus the SCCA regional track records. Sterling Doc Posted December 30, 2009 Posted December 30, 2009 Keep in mind enduro classing is done based on car/ruleset potential, not last yaers laptimes. The 924S that won GTS-1 this year was a Spec car on DOT's, and no where near what a GTS-1 cars potential is. It won becuase no one built/brought a more fully developed GTS-1 car, and it was driven well. I don't believe ST allows a partial tube frame chassis with completely custom suspension pick up points, unlimited aero mods, etc. Nothing is as wide open as GTS rules. There is more than meets the eye in enduro classing. Quote
kbrew8991 Posted December 31, 2009 Author Posted December 31, 2009 you don't know ST classing very well - its just as wide open as what you described. I'm seeing alot more inconsistencies the more I look at these changes... Quote
