RULE 16.2.10

Can someone help clarify this rule for me. If I understand it right I can "GUT the doors" as long as I leave the factory side impact bar in place.

By "GUTTING" the door, does that include all the window mech and glass, AND THE INTERIOR DOOR SHEET METAL?

And "Nascar" door bars are optional.

Thanks

If you remove the door inner sheet metal, you should be doing so to add the NASCAR style bars that go into that space. Otherwise I'd keep the metal in place. Removing that sheet metal is not needed to make weight.

Where are you from?

Who's building your car?

Hey Tim I had a shop ask me if they could weld the doors closed? It's not forbidden or allowed and I could see no esthics reason for not allowing but I figured I'd get your approval first.

That couldn't be for safety. It would make it much more difficult to get a big flaming Dane out of the car! YIKES!

The only reason to do that would be to stiffen the chassis. That gets a big NO from this series director. Refer that shop to paragraph 3 of the NASA 944-spec rules. Sounds like they didn't read the rules anyway......

Dang shops.........

They're worse than the individual drivers sometimes, huh?

Eric, which shop was that? I'll give them a friendly call and help them understand the philosophy of equal cars. Serious, I'll be nice about it. It's important that they're going with the flow, ok?

I heard through Jim Marks that there's a guy in the San Fernando Valley building a spec car too.....

Thanks Tim for the info on the door issue. But I might need to do a bit more than most guys to get down to weight. I am 6"4" and 255lbs!! So I probably have 75-100lbs on most drivers.

To answer your question, I am in the Los Angeles area. I have done a couple HPDE days in my 911 Turbo. I broke a small part and $2700 later decided to sell it and get into something more economical.

I will take the Driving Concepts School in Feb and hopefully be able to compete this year.

Outstanding!

I'm an ex-911 driver myself. I still love the car but my first 944-spec car cost the same as a 911 engine rebuild!

Keep us posted on your car project and let us know how we can help you. You're going to need numbers. Have you seen the drivers/numbers list yet?

The shop was just given the rules today and I gave him the low down on our "attitude". He may be biulding a car or 2 for some POC guys and hopefully they will cross over too!
