mweeks
I need to drive my car to the tracks so I will need headlights. Can I remove the "Pop-up" lights and install an aftermarket conversion set that uses a clear cover over a fixed pair of lights?
AZ Coupe Jason
The answer is NO - If the rules dont say you can then you cant - On a side note, I keep mine down with tape and then wedge sticks under the light when driving at night, works just fine and it was a cheap fix about 2 bucks Jason

Tim Comeau
I'll echo the "No" answer, but add that the reason is: you're adding non factory parts that aren't mentioned specifically in the rules. Those rules are good reading.......not much plot, not too many colorful characters, but really, really helpful.
944-Spec#94
I run with no headlights. Never had them in the car since 2000. I do run the stock covers to complete a stock look. Now if you need to drive to the track in the car you can either keep the lights and ditch the power flip up deal and fab simply way to hold them. Or fab a simple way to remove and install the lights at the track. Just remember that when on track you still need the stock covers in place. This retains the 'stock' appearance to the car. 944-spec#09
Yes, you can remove the whole light assembly but many of us need them to drive at night. I recommend that if you need to remove some weight, remove the motor and crossbar mechanism that lifts the lights. When you do, the spring that is built into the crossbar is lost so the lights will move freely. Several methods can be used to lock them in place up or down (like Jason's tape). The back of the light has a triangular extension with a stop screw that adjusts the position of the light when it is up. You can just replace this stop screw with a bolt through the body metal to keep the lights up, however, you will need another way to hold them down. The method I like is to fabricate brackets mounted to the front-rear body frame on each side of the radiator (where the original crossbar and motor attached) that catch the ball which previously attached to the crossbar in either the up or down position. You need two holes, one for the up position and one for the down. It's hard to describe so perhaps I will need to provide pics but you can come up with something pretty easily, if only duct tape. Tim Comeau
Black Forest has fabricated a set of brackets for this. They use pins to hold the lights up.
