numbers

I looked at the rules...

And could'nt find the answer, so..

What size numbers do I need and do I have to put them on the sides and hood? Is there a "spec" location?

And, does the background need to say 944-Spec at the top?

Finally, where do I get them made?

Thanks

Tim has a number on the plates, I mean phone number. We are running spec plates in SoCal, looks pretty cool too with all the same plates, well, 99% anyway.

We in SoCal all have the same number plates and most of us have the door plates mounted in the same location. 1/4 inch in front of the door handles, 1/8th inch up from the bottom of the door. (The window sill is not level.) The hood number plates can be placed anywhere on the hood that the starter, timing and scoring, and corner workers can see clearly and easily. You must display the class name.

As the series director in SoCal, I like having the cars with uniform number plates. I think it looks much more professional than the "anything goes" approach.

I have made most of the plates you see on the cars with the help of my friends in the vinyl sign business. They've gone out of business now, and since I designed the number plates while I worked for them, a simple phone call and a deal allowed me to re-acquire my work. So I can still produce the same exact design. I can't make those decals mandatory and then be the only one to produce them. I could make them available to other vinyl shops, but they'd charge you more for them. So that's the background. Here's what I want to do.

I'll strongly encourage the use of the standard decals and make them less expensive than what new guys could have them made for. That way, we'll stay uniform, meet the rules requirements, and save some money, too.

Have you picked out a number yet?

WOW! Thats a big answer.

Anyway, yes I have number 54. So if you can help me get these made I would appreciate it.

Or I would gladly pay you for a set. I'm not one to worry too much about a couple of bucks here and there, not to sound like an a**.

How about the font? I like the look of the block style if that can be done.

As for keeping them the same,I am all for the uniform look, its a great very clean look.

Thanks

peice of advice on #'s...leave yourself enough room for 3 digit #.

Having 2 digits works well for NASA, but in other groups ie. POC, you will have to go to 3. I have to completely redo my graphics as the plate doesn't fit with my car.

Mike,

Thanks for your understanding and support of the class! I can make the number plates for you at a great price. The numbers are the same font as everyone else's.

Tim

Can you put together a set of "guidelines" or recommendation of how and where to put the the numbers, class, etc. and get it to Joe Palluch so he can put it on the website? Please include the recommended sizes for letters and maybe even some pics for examples. I know these are not mandatory but if we put up guidelines and explain why we recommend this to make the class look better and more identifiable, it is likely that new cars, or even older ones getting new paint will follow them.

Hey Tim,

If I can place my order with mweeks that'll be great.

You can PM me with the amount/address to sent it to I'll get the funds to you.

Thx!

Why wouldn't everyone just order from Tim? If you shop and shop, you MAY save a $ or two, but he already has the template and is offering a great service.....

Besides, baby needs shoes.....

I think Tim's point is that he doesn't want to seem to have a 'financial influence' to his decision of having uniform number plates. He doesn't, someone else was making them. Now they don't, we still should have uniform number plates, but that means for Tim to take over. Thus, the conundrum.

Buy them from Tim if you think we should have uniform number plates. He's NOT going to get rich from it..

P.Dilly.

Jim and Dylan,

Thanks for the support. I appreciate it and so does the class.

Ken,

I've got your request for number plates noted.

Steve,

Yet ANOTHER excellent idea from you, oh wise one.

I'll make that happen asap.

I went to a new graphics shop yesterday and I'm waiting for word back today on their price.

Tim

Just an FYI, but I perfer the thick block numbers we use in Az. While your font is a little "cooler" ours is easier to read even if it is a little boring.

I do however love the idea of standard number boards. I would not require folks to retrofit them, but would think they should be encouraged for new cars or when cars are repainted/renumbered.

Tim,

Just my five cents...

I prefer the bold straightforward numbers AZ is using.

Although your design is kinda cool it is just easier to have a extra digit made when I race with POC, where I have to add the number "2" in front of my NASA #47.

Please let us know the name of the font.

Put me down for a set when they are available.

Mikael

Hey Tim,

I hope I did'nt start something you did'nt want to deal with.

But my feeling is if I have to put money in someones pocket, I prefer to put it in someones who is involved in our activity, every little bit helps.

I'm one of those racing freaks that likes to support sponsors and people that are involved in motor sports.

Ok, number plates and windshield names are on order for:

Jackie CORWIN #55

Michael WEEKS # 54

Ken HUEY # 89

Mikael WEITZE # 47

I was able keep the price right around the same as before, which is nice because I was getting a Buddy deal before. I just need to work out the tax/ resale stuff for a final total. Regardless, it will be less than $93 including the 7.75% tax.

Thanks Tim! I can send you a check or money order.

I just hope it doesn't say "944-SPEC.COM" with the hyphen because that site doesn't work

"944SPEC.COM" (without the hyphen) whenever Joe V. updates the nameserver or "944-SPEC.ORG" (with the hyphen but under the .ORG instead of the .COM domain) is O.K.
