Hi all,

I have a 2004 Cobra with the basic boltons (i.e. subframe connectors, intake, ferodo pads, etc...) and would like to get into roadracing/autocrossing my car.

I've brosed through the NASA website and such but am just unsure as to what direction i would need to go to. If someone can help me out that would be greatly appreciated. is this a seperate school kinda like solo?

thank you

Definitely could use an FAQ on the site for this!

Welcome to NASA! I suspect your car would ultimately fall under the American Iron classes (AI or AIX). For questions specific to racing in that class, you'll want to use that forum.

However you've clearly also got some specific questions that are more general. Where are you located? Most of those questions would best be answered by those in your region, such as schedules, etc.

Specific to getting into the road-racing scene here, you'd need to attend one of your Region's Competition Schools (held usually during the race weekends) to earn a competition license. Again, you can see why you'd be best off talking to your Region contacts...

Welcome to NASA, the supercharged Cobras are awesome cars. The first thing you should do is check out a local event. Show up to one, meet people, ask questions, watch the action. OR better yet, sign up for an HDPE! You won't be disappointed!

You car was made for the track.

Welcome to NASA! Next event is at California Speedway on March 12th and 13th. As far as getting started, you can run in HPDE, all you need is a helmet and the willingness to learn to drive on the track! You'd start in HPDE one with an instructor, and as you become more comfortable/faster you'll move up into groups 2, 3 then 4. All kinds of cars will be in these groups, they are usually divided by experience, not by the potential speed of the car.

Once you feel you are ready (if you want to be a racer), you may attend a Driving Concepts school and if you pass you will be issued a Provisional License and with that you may apply for a rookie permit for NASA. Hopefully you've been slowly modifying your car as you progressed through HPDE to prepare it to become an AI car. Going to the races gives you the opportunity to look at everyones cars and give yourself an idea what it will take and what you may or may not want to do when you turn your car into a race car.

I startd in HPDE many years ago, and have been racing in the SE-R Cup for the past three years. I wouldn't trade my experience with NASA for anything.

Hopefully we'll see you at Cal Speedway in March in HPDE!

Hi there!

When you are out at California Speedway next weekend, come by and say hi to us at the SVTOA pit area! So Cal SVTOA joins NASA each year at this event, as well as attending several other track events and driving schools through the year. We have members involved in Solo2, Road Course and a lot of Open Trackers!

So look for the 05 Saleen pace car, our banners and a bunch of SVT Cobra's in the pit area!

See you there!
