Rustic
Finally getting the cage welded into the B-Body. A friend of mine that builds dragsters is doing the fabrication for me (Scott Cowdry). I'm trying to help as much as possible.... but I'm sure I'm mostly in the way Here's a bunch of pix of the AI car and a few of a couple of dragsters he has done.... very impressive work with that TIG of his The door bars will have uprights inside them when it's done. Driver side of the main hoop attached to frame. Rear tube tacked to frame We still need to cut the diagonal and the horizontal that wil go "inside" the main hoop. Scott has also fabricated custom seat brackets for me.... Doesn't look much like a race car yet..... but it should start to shape up nicely after the cage is in.... we'll be painting it this weekend. You can't see it very well... but that's the fiberglass hood laying on the roof. [/img]

swhiteh3
Oh please please tell me you're going to put a police-car style light rack on the roof! I always wanted to run from the cops!

It's not as fun as you think when it's all finished. You can beat the police car, but you can't beat radio waves...
Rustic
I thought a lot about a police package paint job... but decided aginst it. The light bar would make me too top heavy .... and it wouldn't do much for the aero package either. The car will be painted Dark Grey Green Metalic.... that was one of the 3 factory colors the Impala SS was produced in.
PAI Racing
Man that car is going to be bitchen! I had a BBB '96 SS and my father-in law has a GGM '96 SS. Cool cars. Glad to see you are cutting up a 9C1 instead of a real SS! What motor are you going to run in the car? Seems like that would be a great place to stick an alloy big block. I posted some pix in a different section of the engine I built.... http://www.nasaforums.com/viewtopic.php?t=3130 Glad to see you are cutting up a 9C1 instead of a real SS! Yea... I couldn't bring myself to cut up a good one... not to mention the cost of a real SS. This was a great deal financialy too... I bought this 9C1 at the State Auction for $1400 and sold off all the parts I didn't need (stock LT1 motor, 4L60E trans, all disc brakes, interior..... etc) and ended up with a free starting point.
