PeanutinCA Posted January 27, 2005 Posted January 27, 2005 Gentlemen, time to share the knowledge again. After doing my rod bearings and fitting the new Control arms, I'll be doing a new alignment. Has anyone found or thought that -3.5 camber front is too much? I'm thinking of going back a little but wondered if anyone else had dialed in a bit? I hope we can share this information, because we certainly help and share lots of other information. If a driver helps you, help out a driver. Then the same question for the rear. I would guess that cars of similar weight would wear roughly the same and therefore respond roughly the same? Is that an ignorant assumption? P.Dilly. Quote
Steven Rea Posted January 27, 2005 Posted January 27, 2005 hey P Dilly, I went with -3.1 up front, as I have the 400# springs. Wear has been pretty good, but actually still wearing the outside a bit more than insides. yes, maybe I just need to drive faster, but also maybe even a smidge less negative could help. The welts sways are set in the middle all the way around and the struts/shocks at full stiff all around. This will also give less body roll and therefore less negative needed, compared to the guys with the softer settings. Good luck, s ps - I think my rear was set at -2.25 Quote
Spec-944#70 Posted January 27, 2005 Posted January 27, 2005 Wouldn't wear on the outside come from not enough neg camber? I think I was at -3.5 front -2.5 rear. Also did you guys notice the difference when you went to stiffer non metalic bushings? One of those while your down there things. I'm pulling my motor Thursday!! Can't wait to see how big the hole is!! I'll take a pic!! Quote
Steven Rea Posted January 27, 2005 Posted January 27, 2005 you're right Tim, sorry PD. It's been wearing on the inside. I ran mine with the poly/delrin bushings from the beginning so can't compare. s Quote
944-Spec#94 Posted January 27, 2005 Posted January 27, 2005 I run 3.5 front and 2.5 rear. I have also run harder bushings from day one with car so it is hard to tell. I see no need to change camber settings as I get very even tire wear across the face of the tire. As for sway bars. I run the weltmeisters and their particular settings I am in the process of fine tunning. I may even need to fine tune them for each track, but that will take time for me to learn. To this point I have use the same set-up for every track all the time. Now that Glenn G is superfast I need to do a little more work and try to get a bit more out of the car. Quote
Tim Comeau Posted January 27, 2005 Posted January 27, 2005 I've noticed more wear on the inside of the tires lately, both front and rear, whereas last year, they were wearing very evenly. I did switch to 400 lb springs, which would prevent the car from rolling up as much. I was thinking I don't need to run as much negative camber with the heavier spring? I haven't checked my alignment in a while. Maybe the toe is off? When my ball joints went out on the red car, the wheels would toe out severely( guessing) under braking because the insides were corded in no time flat. Ruined 2 new tires! CHECK YOUR BALL JOINTS! When they are going bad, you could mistake the loose movement of the wheel as a loose wheel bearing. Admittedly, I haven't made a science out of my cars handling yet. This will become more critical though as more drivers come up to speed in 2005. BTW, I had the car set up withn 3.5/front and 2.5/rear. I have 400's and 30mm's. I run the front shocks full soft at Willow and the car seems much more compliant around the bumpy turns. I've never tuned the rear shocks and don't even know where they are set! Quote
