In it's inaugeral Southern California run...the #51 car, this weekend at the POC STS #1,.......Broke the bolt of the top of a shock....

Questions,

What would cause this? I never took a wheel off track, and don't recall hitting anything on track....

Can I buy one shock? I think they are Koni Sports (although they arent yellow)

Thanks!! By the way, I OFFICIALLY do not miss the Kart anymore.....what fun!!!! (even though you could of timed me with a sun-dial...)

YES you can just buy one and they are not to hard to put in!

Glad you had fun!

Okay, I pulled the shock(strut) and now it looks as if the nut that holds it on top of the camber plate just came off and the shock slipped through. The problem is it looks like it smashed the little adjusting tab on the top. Does anyone know if I cna bend this back, or just replace this tab? I will have time to look at it closer this evening.....

I guess if it still turns you can just bend it back. Otherwise it may be jammed. If you can compress the strut then the strut is probably fine even if the adjustment is jammed.

Make sure you check the nuts as I have seen many get loose over time. Never heard of one falling out, but I clearly could happen.

Upon bending it back it snapped off. I kinda figured that was my fate. Of well, I wasn't really ready to start making adjustments anyway...

Q: Does anyone know the size/thread of the nut that holds the shock rod to the tower?? Is it hardened, special, anything? Thanks.

It is the same as you have on the other side of the car.

Yes, I figured that. But with my incredible mechanical abilities I could not figure out how to loosen that nut. IT spins freely with the shock rod, and I didnt want to grab the shock rod with anything that would mar it....

Any help?

There should be small flat on the top of the strut near the tab. I think it is a 10 mm. You can use this to hold the strut top from turning. You will need an box end 22 mm to loosen the nut.
