Smaller section Hoosier vs. larger R-comps?

I need new tires. Been running 255/40/17 NT01s for couple seasons. Hoosier contingency and availability of some cheaper scrubbed Hoosiers has me tempted to switch.

Caveat, if I want to stay in my class, which I do, I have to size my tires down to 235 or 225(have a line on cheap set in this size) vs. 255 now.

Since nobody else really runs the same car like mine, anyone else compare lap times in similar situations?

Would I be at advantage or not, or possibly even disadvantage?

The right compound will make up for width any day. I've run faster this year at every track on a 40mm smaller tire. Yes - I said 40mm.

I'm thinking about moving to 245's in '11

I understand that. My question is then whether Hoosier is "the right compound" when compared to NT01s?

What did you switch from/to? Was it only the tire change, nothing else on the car? And you should always account for yourself getting faster a smidge...but I'm curious what you did as far as tires?

TIA

to do it right - testing testing and more testing

Agree as well. Problem is sometime I don't get back to the same track in one season to be able to do this. Ideally, having 2 sets of wheels and tires would accomplish this, but I'd need a budget I don't have

Note that the size molded into the sidewall is not consistent among brands. I run smaller tires than you, and a 205/50/15 Hoosier is physically wider than a 225/45/15 Toto RA1.

I'm running Hoosiers to take advantage of contingency too, and it has worked out pretty well.

I went from 315/18 Hoosier R6 scrubs to sticker 275/18 A6's and/or Hankook C91's. C5 Corvette.

There is no comparison between an A6 -vs- an NT01. Huge difference.

Damn!

You can fit 255's under your typ89-B3? 20v coupe right?

The biggest I've tried is 225/45-15's

I just converted the front to "90" 2 peice struts w/Wilwood calipers and Corrado 11" rotors

Here's my deal:

'84 typ85 "B2" coupe, You may have allot more traction, but I'm only 2,400lbs!

I've got a built 2.6L 10v in the garage ready to go!
