Civic EG K20 - Traction problems

Recommended Posts

I have an Eg with a k20R swap with a 5.06 FD and OEM LSD.

I run 15x7.5 wheels with 225/45 R888 tires.

My problem is that when I floor it out of the exits I get too much wheelspin.

I wanted to ask people that run similar set ups for their advise.

I am looking into 17x8 or x9 wheels and 235 or 255 tire if I can make it fit. Would this help with the problem or is there any other option?

I have been told that a better Differential instead of the oem unit would help, is this correct?

I do not want to spend the money and still have problems.

I am pretty sure that the wider wheels and tires with the additional weight will help, but I want to hear what experienced people have to say.

Thanks for the help.

If it's inside wheelspin, then you can usually work on fixing that with setup, differential, etc. If it's both front wheel spinning, you'll probably have to either put monster tires on the front or drive the car differently. More info may help though!

the problem is both wheels spinning at the same time.

The track is pretty small and I have to drive it completely in third gear and i still get wheel spin say at 50 - 60 mph in a 45 deg turn. I cant use second gear because i get no traction at all coming out of corner exits. I use as much of the track as possible and unwind, but still dont get it.

hope this helps

thanks

The diff is problem #1, but if you learn to roll onto the gas and not hammer it you could also solve your problem.

I don't think any of us with proper final drive ratios use second gear.

I do...get a real diff.

What type of diff do you use? i have heard that OS Giken an Kazz work petty good.

I imagine I will end up buying both in the long run, so would I still fix the issue if i get the wheels/tire first and then diff?

When I changed from the JDM lsd to a quaiffe, it was a noticable difference. Not sure how other diffs are but it seems that after market ones have more grab. Now that I'm running my spare non lsd trans with normal FD, I am nowhere near as fast in the corner and run further back in the pack. A good diff is worth 1-2 seconds. The final drive is worth 1-2 seconds.

I also agree with the squeeze the throttle method of driving. IMO the R888's are more like hoosiers and like to be driven a little less agressively on turning but can hold a little more during the turn with the right torque amount being squeezed to get you all the power you need to the ground.

If you can combine both the new lsd and slight change to driving style, you should notice a difference right away.
