At this past weekend's drivers meeting at New Jersey Motorsports Park, it was announced that there will not be a 2011 race season for the Mustang Challenge. I'm truly disappointed to see this wonderful series go away, however, excited to welcome all present and future Mustang Challenge cars into American Iron in the future.

Mustang Challenge racecars are an excellent base package for American Iron Racing. Every NASA region in the U.S. can and will welcome these cars to our regional events in the coming years, as we have to date. Please join me in congratulating the folks at Mustang Challenge for putting together a spectacular ponycar series, which will only help build the richness of our sport and of ou own series.

Details of the official announcement can be found here at http://www.mustangchallenge.com

I'm also sad to see the series go. I was hoping to race in Mustang Challenge one day. We have Mustang Challenge cars racing successfully in the Mid Atlantic region and hope to have more join us. They are great cars and they fit well into American Iron!

it's a shame but honestly like we didn't see this coming ? The series has dropped in car count since it first started year after year. They had to seen the writing on the wall when they had 30 plus new units sitting that couldn't be sold and had to pawn them to miller.

Ford didn't care about the survival of that series . that was a Miller dream that died when he past. If Ford wanted the series to survive they would have figured a way to get those 35 extra cars into race drivers hands.

The jetta tdi cup looks like a better series for that kind of money being spent.

I seriously considered building a car and running that series till they told me I couldn't and had to run a specific fr500s car .WTF?

even grand am will let you build a car for GS .

Rob, call miller they have about 30 ravaged driving experience cars for sale .

I'm sure you will see a few for sale but I look to see the few that actually race make it into something else like AI .

last one on ebay sold for almost 40k last year . with the value of the s197 mustang now arriving at a price range of a grass roots racer to consider building, a 500s car will still not be a value to a true grassroots racer. maybe a weekend warrior or collector. I'm guessing 30k area for a used up car needing some work.

. The buy is going to be a 05/09 500c car after next year when they don't allow it anymore. The big money guys that race in that series aren't going to dick around with a old c car. they will unload it for a deal I'm guessing .

what I want to know is what are they going to do will all the ford racing parts that are allocated for supporting that series.......

the series was too expensive. when grand am gs mustangs cost less than the S cars, you knew there was going to be an issue.

having to have an actual S car to run the series kept the resale value up. without the series the cost to get one should be more realistic.

here's hoping.

agreed, Jeff and I had that conversation over on cc when they first came out 75k OUCH. But considering what some big name shops charge to build a car 75k was a steal for what you got. I know of a couple 100k ai build cars running around. 75k probably looks pretty good to them.

keep in mind that a s car on ra1's is going to need some motor help if it plans to run up front in ai. Add that extra price of a true ptw calculated ai car out of what a s car will actually sell for and I will almost gurantee I can build it for less money.

I wouldn't look to see a s car sell for less then 30k used up. But I'll keep a eye out.

Maybe contact George winkler since he already had a modified s car to run in ai plus a miller cup car that he actually races in that series. I doubt he will need a spare s car ? Unless he wants a spare parts car.

Seen he is running ai with us at vir this weekend. if I see him I will mention it.

Thats what happens when you put a semi good tire on the car... they run just about the same times as AI cars at mid ohio and they are way underpowered and over weight.

maybe its politically incorrect to talk about life without toyo, but cars do handle better and are more fun to drive on other than something as hard as the toyo.
