jkrom
http://s210.photobucket.com/albums/bb296/Renault_Guy/ [email protected] Although it pains me to no end, I have come to the realization that I will never be able to dedicate the time required to get either of these pieces of ‘80s Exotic French goodness on the track again. Cars are both in my garage in suburban Detroit and I can supply additional photos as requested. Car “A” (yellow #33) 1983 IMSA RS AMC/Renault Alliance (roller) SCCA HP/GTL/STU - NASA PT - Vintage This Alliance was professionally built from body-in-white by factory Renault team (Archer Brothers) for IMSA RS “Champion Spark Plug Challenge” (* see disclaimer below). This is not a “Renault Cup” car, which were street cars with a bolt-in cage and Koni suspension, but a professional racing machine akin to a current World Challenge factory effort. The Archer Renaults did very well in the Champion Spark Plug series in the mid-eighties, culminating in Tommy Archer winning the ‘84 championship in a sister car. http://www.pbase.com/mwphoto has several photos of them from back in the day. This car is a roller with no drivetrain • It would have been originally fitted with a Katech-built 200+HP 1.4L with Hemi Alpine head and sidedraft Webers, which may be difficult to replace. • All of my plans for this car included using the 1.7 or 2.0L OHC engines (of which I have many), rather than the 1.4L. It has also lost a few other generic racecar parts through the years, including: • fuel system • seat (unmounted used ModPlastia fiberglass seat included) • gauges and wiring Car is in pristine condition and is almost clean enough to be a show car. Custom aluminum interior work (gauge pod, door panels, rear suspension cover, etc.) MOMO steering wheel (like new) Killer roll cage that passes through fire wall and connects in all the right places Reinforced front subframe and boxed strut towers Serious racing suspension: • Threaded body Konis w/ 2.5” racing springs, adjustable sway bar and custom camber/caster plates in front • Rear is completely custom, including axle with adjustable camber, Koni shocks and adjustable sway bar. * I have no log book and cannot verify any specific build or race history, but I firmly believe that this is an actual Archer car due to the professional level of fabrication work. Please understand that the low price for this car already takes into account the unverifiable pieces of its history and please don’t complain that I can’t prove anything thereto. In other words, buy it for the cool car that it is and could be, not because you believe it to be some historical artifact. Car “B” (yellow/blue #21) 1985 SCCA ITC AMC/Renault Encore (crash damage) I raced this car at Waterford Hills in 2000 through 2002, with decent success (typically third or fourth place finishes). It makes good power (it’s all relative, this is an ITC car) and handles great. There is some rust in the rear fender wells and driver floor that was (more or less) repaired by previous owner. Left side crashed squarely into concrete wall in its last race (September 2002). I haven’t looked too closely at it since the accident, but I know the front subframe, LF A-arm and strut are damaged and door does not fit properly. Car could be repaired and returned to the track (ITC, NASA, LeMons or ChumpCar) or stripped of parts to sell off and/or complete the Alliance. I couldn’t begin to catalog everything, but here are some of the highlights: Body Parts • Hoods (at least two, there might still be another at my dad’s house) • Alliance/GTA trunk lid w/ spoiler • Encore hatch • Doors (at least two of each side) • GTA grille Engines and Transmissions • GTA 2.0L bottom end • GTA head / camshaft • (2) complete 1.7L (factory NOS) • Multiple 1.7L heads • GTA close-ratio trans • Multiple standard 5-speed trans Suspension • Koni Struts/shocks • (2) GTA / euro turbo rear axles Wheels/Tires • 4 MOMO Gemini 13x6 w/215/60/13 street tires (as seen on pics of the Alliance) • 2 MOMO Gemini 14x6 • 6 VW “Bottle cap” 14x6 • Most of the above shod w/ used 8-year-old Kumho V700 • 4 Stock Encore GS 14x5.5 w/ Hoosier Dirt Stockers Racing stuff intended to complete the Alliance • New ATL 8 gallon fuel cell • New Braided hose and fittings • New Fram HPG1 Fuel Filter Edited August 23, 2010 by Guest
