Entry level FIA seat choice

Hello everyone!

Really need to get a seat ordered soon and having some trouble deciding. Unfortunately I live in an area that has zero performance shops that I could sit in a lot of seats so I gotta go off user feedback!

Here is the criteria!

Car: Nissan 350z - dedicated track car. DE's and PDX's at first, ultimately SCCA Touring and/or NASA PT

8pt cage, seat base attached to cage

Owner is 5'10 170lbs, 32-33" waist.

Wants an FIA composite seat.Max budget for seat only is $800

Top picks:

Racetech RT1000

OMP WRC

OMP RS PT

Recaro Pole position

Sparco Evo

concerned that the Racetech does not have the leg bolstering that the OMP does. Also the OMP RS PT is a halo seat and the extra safet is nice. Thoughts on seat choice? Any not listed that will fit the bill?

Thanks in advance!

I have a Sparco PRO-ADV in my Z. I am 6ft, 160lbs, 30-32 inch waist and its about a half an inch big, but very comfortable. Its around $750 or so Ron @ Discoveryparts.com will ship anything over $100 free via ground. Its nice because it has built in head side restraints so you wont have to run the center net. Best of luck in your Z build!

Even with the halo seat, it is a good idea to use a right side net. In crash video, it has been shown that a driver's head and shoulder can go beyond the wing of the halo, and get caught there. Proper installation (height) of the net is also very important.

my next seat will be a halo seat assuming it won't block the window too much - gotta balance side protection with egress, especially with small window openings. I'd be tempted to lean that way assuming the seat fits you very well.

Yep, that's what I am struggling with. 6'2" in an Integra with a close seating position. I can't get my helmet between the wing and the A pillar when its strapped to my head. Its all a compromise.

So how do you get out quickly if the door doesn't work? That's scary!

Easy. I don't run a halo seat. I want to but because of that issue, I don't.

The problem with the Z is that egress is not possible out the window. The helmet/hans physically will not clear the window opening, at least in my cases. I have seen a grand am Z where they actually cut 6 inches from the top of the door, and then put the "panel" back in with quick release pins. To get out, pull the pins, the panel should fall away, and then you could climb out. Havent found any pictures to give my fabricator, but its something on my list to do.

When I was running an Allison Legacy, the "door" had an extra panel that would pivot down with the release of the window next. This picture isn't the best but it shows the drop:

ugh, its it all H&Ns or just HANS brand that won't fit?

Never tried any others.

After much discussion with Ron@discoveryparts I ended up getting an OMP RS-PT2 halo seat. Great value for the $ and Ron lives up to the hype, had the seat in 2 days to Missouri for free. how the hell does he do it?
