Mid-Atlantic Finale and Regional Champion Crowned

This past weekend, American Iron wrapped up the 2010 season at VIR with the OktoberFAST event.

 

Reigning champion Jimmy Bost blew an engine in practice and did not race. George Winkler started from the pole with a blazing 2:07.581 qualifying lap. Winkler led from flag to flag and went on to set a track record with a 2:08.383 during the race. Beau Dunnivant finished second and Kienan Weber held off Randy Maits to finish 3rd.

 

In the second race, Winkler again started from the pole but made contact with another car and lost several positions. Beau Dunnivant ran consistently throughout the weekend and beat Randy Maits by 0.2 seconds for the win. Kienan Weber held off Winkler and took 3rd.

Congratulations to Beau Dunnivant for another Mid-Atlantic Regioinal Championship! This was the best year for American Iron in the region in recent memory. Car counts more than doubled over last year and there was an average of 13 cars in AI/AIX per event. The quality of the cars and drivers in the Mid-Atlantic region has improved significantly and track records continue to fall. We look forward to another great year in 2011.
