National Staff Jeremy C. Posted April 6, 2011 National Staff Share Posted April 6, 2011 http://www.nasaproracing.com/2011/04/nasa-announces-response-to-toy.html NAPA VALLEY, CA (April 5, 2011) The National Auto Sport Association (NASA) announced today that it will be changing tire rules in some of its classes as a result of extraordinary circumstances related to the earthquake and tsunami in Japan on March 11, 2011. Difficulties relating to raw material supply, electricity availability, and transport restrictions have greatly impacted the availability of the Toyo Proxes RA-1 tire which is the specified tire for many NASA classes. As such, NASA will be removing the requirement to use the Toyo Proxes RA-1 from the American Iron, Honda Challenge, and Spec 944 classes beginning on May 1, 2011 and will allow any DOT-approved R compound tire. Spec Tire classes will be handled on a case-by-case basis, so please keep informed by visiting the http://www.nasaproracing.com for any new information if and when it’s posted or by visiting your class section on the http://www.nasaforums.com. NASA will be sure to post any new information when it’s available.

Great tire. Enjoy.
944-Spec#94
944 spec racers. If you cannot obtain 225/50 R15 TOYO RA-1 though your normal channels please contact your local regional 944 director for guidance. We can help you either find RA-1s or help determine the most suitable replacement that will maintain competitiveness for all racers and be suitable for budget racing. Together working as class we can best get through this challenging times. Just remember 944 spec will never stray from the ideals of low cost equal racing. Sterling Doc
Treadzone just got over 100 225/50/15 tires in, and I'm sure Phil's Tire's shipment should be soon to follow. We should be good for a while as is. Maybe Hoosier will make a harder compound by the time we're out of RA-1's. We'd really welcome that opportunity! Tim Comeau
I just found a set of new 225/50/15's that were being sold by a BMW team at Buttonwillow. I also found some others with a 944 customer here localy. The tires are still out there and WAY cheaper than Hoosiers, which still don't fit our class philosophy of low cost Porsche racing. Joe is right. We can find people tires and keep the cost of racing down.
Sterling Doc
Toyo is back as THE SPEC tire for Nationals. The open tire rule will remain in effect for the balance of the regular season for this year.
