National Staff Greg G. Posted March 22, 2005 National Staff Share Posted March 22, 2005 39 competing drivers, great weather for running a Time Trial competition, the fastest track on the West Coast, and driver's anxious to start the season off well, we were bound to break records, and we did--in a big way! It was impressive when we broke every single TT record on Saturday, but when we beat those times by as much as three seconds on Sunday, that was incredible. The level of competiton and skill exhibited leaped upward on Sunday, as our drivers apparently were able to dust off the cobwebs. Driven
good job to everyone participanting! and especially good job for everyone leaving the track with their cars contact-free...except one ambitious HPDE driver.
Pat L.
Big thanks to the coordinators and NASA staff who made it such a terrific event! I'm counting down to Sears Point where SoCal is going to represent! Oh, and Buttonwillow should be fun too By the way, Keith's vette is FAST! Paul
Why was the track so fast that weekend? I noticed all of the race groups were faster also.... any idea's? Paul
National Staff Greg G. Posted April 5, 2005 Author National Staff Share Posted April 5, 2005 Paul, There are a few things that I can think of. First, the weather was perfect for racing, and the turbo cars were running at peak performance. Second, there were less tire stacks, and more cones used to mark the course and corners, so even though the course was the same, it was easier to come closer to apexes without having to worry about scraping a stack of tires, especially on the two kinks. Last, I think our drivers are just getting more experienced at this track.
