ok...here is the tentative schedule and rules. i can make changes if necessary, so speak up.

here's the schedule and why.

March 24-25 @ VIR (chance for northern drivers to get an early event in)

June 16-17 @ Road Atlanta (had a huge ST2 turnout last season)

September/Nationals@ MidOhio (most top eastern drivers will be here anyway)

October 6-7 Sebring

comments?

we want as much car count as we can get. here is the class breakdown that I came up with.

ST1

ST2(PTA and GTS3 invited to run this class to expand the competition)

Chris, do you think it makes sense to also run an AI/AIX/CMC group aswell since this concept is established there?

Couldn't GTS4 run in ST2, too?.

would gts4 be a good match for st1?

I think the GTS4 hp/weight ratio will put them right in ST2 territory.

They could always ballast up a little bit if they wanted to run with us. I think it would be great to have all kinds of cars to run in the class to run with us.

Why no Northeast track? If its an East coast Championship shouldn't we race at one track from each region on the East Coast?

And most of the GTS guys would probably not be willing to run in ST unless there was some extra incentive. I can talk to a few of my sponsors and see if anyone would be willing to put some money towards an event. If the winner could pay his expenses for the weekend I am sure we would probably draw a few more cars out to come play !!!

i am not against having a northeast track on the program. the concensus has been that watkins glen would have to be the track. the october weather there can be touch and go, though and the entry fee is almost as pricey as a nationals entry.

is there another event on the NE schedule that you think makes sense?

New Jersey Motorsports Park has 2 tracks which we attend a total of 4 times during our season. In the past we have even rented both tracks out and put the racers on one track by themselves and the DE guys on the other track which makes for and AMAZING weekend. I realize that the Glens weather can be quite iffy in September. NJMP is a nice facility which hosts Grand Am every year, its a bit closer than the Glen, and if we pushed for it we may be able to secure both tracks which would allow us to do a number of other things (enduros, fun runs, and maybe even run one track one day and the other track the second day).

Available Dates are:

April 20 -22

May 25 – 27

Aug. 3 - 5

Oct. 26 - 28

i know about new jersey. maybe its just me but from people i know in grand am njmp is not popular.

my feeling is that the nationals are going far away in 2013 and maybe we can add a north event for that season after we establish this season.

that said, i can consider a change if there is a lot of support for njmp in the next 10 days or so.

I also cross referenced these dates with all the regional races in the GL, MW, MA, SE, and FL regions and there is only one conflict with a regional race, so it should not affect anyone who is chasing points regionally.

the memorial day wknd date is the most interesting. lets see if there is any support for it.

That seems kind of ridiculous to NOT have a NE track when this is supposed to have been an East Coast Championship! So really what you mean is if the NE wants to participate they can do all the travel!

I think the Glen would be great but I understand some people are afraid to race in the rain. And if you make the long haul and pay the price and then have crappy weather it won't sit well. I get it.

BUT,

How can you knock NJMP (either track) if you haven't been there. They are both very nice tracks, challenging to drive and good facilities.

Every time we race there the racing is great and close. Plus for those coming from the SE and MA it is about 5 1/2 hours closer than the Glen. Sounds like the perfect compromise to me.

* i am just trying to help

* this thread has been going a while and i dont recall a lot of support from northern racers.

* if there is enough support there for the memorial day weekend date at nj we can try it.

* the only conversation about a northern track was the glen. again, iirc there was no mention of nj.

* i cant go to every race course. the people i know that have been have generally not been complimentary. you dont trust your friends and comrades when they report similar feelings about something?

have you posted in this thread before?

You can ask around. Most ST2 Drivers know that I traveled quite a bit last year with 3 cars from the Northeast. I traveled to Sebring, Atlanta, VIR, and MO last year along with running a full NE schedule while supporting multiple cars. I know that it is going to be difficult to get guys from the northeast to travel around when drivers are not willing to come run with us. I realize that you dont hear a lot of participation on the forums from the NE guys and for the most part that is bc most of them do not participate on the forums, but as the NE ST/PT director I know that we have a solid ST group and that there are at least 5 ST2 cars that traveled outside the region at least twice to compete. I know that it would help foster the growth of an East Coast Championship if you held an event in each region of the East Coast. Plus to have a true championship you have to have the best drivers at the best tracks and we have a number of extremely talented drivers including David Fazzino who finished 2nd in the Nats this year.

lets see if we can get commitments from non ne drivers for the memorial day weekend njmp date

I had been planning to return to the Great Lakes region and prepare for another national championship. If support builds for a East Coast series I will be glad to travel to VIR and Road Atlanta. My favorite track is Watkins Glen which is 6.5 hours away. The southern tracks are double that for me. If we see 20 ST-2 cars at Road Atlanta I hope we see similar numbers at a NJ or Glen event.

David Fazzino #101 ST-2

We weren't trying to leave Nasa-NE out of the loop... it worked out better for Rob to schedule going to Sebring late in the year as opposed to Watkins Glen with the chance of weather being better in FL than in NY. I unfortunately won't get to make most of these races this year since I'm still rebuilding my car... but hopefully I'll be ready to bring it in 2013.

Depends who's driving a GTS 4 car is 8.5:1, GTS 5 is 6.6:1

GTS 4 is very close to ST2, GTS 3 is a moving chicane

I want to do it, but my plan is to be in Road Atlanta in March, towing to VIR in March is some risky business with the weather and the mountains us mid westerners need to tow through. I wouldn't let that effect your schedule though cause the odds of me even having a car is slim. Make the schedule and I'll try and make it, set the ground work for 2013 & 2014 when Nationals is on the west coast people will probably make a bigger commitment to a series like this.

BTW Didn't AI do something like that a few years ago? Is that still going?

Yes, DeSalvo did this and it worked good for a couple of years. Not really sure why it fell off the map... but that was before I got involved with Nasa.

My father and I will both be joining ST2 in the NE region this year, I'm sure that we could make it to some of these events.

Hey Michael! We look forward to seeing you guys run ST2 again. There is already a good list of NE ST2 guys who are ready to jump on board (Dave Fazzino, Dave Greenman, My Father, Myself, and Our rental car). It would be nice to have both you and your father join us as we invade some other regions!!!

This is key - 2012 might not be the year for this to take off with Nationals still out this way.

I would love to run at the Glen again and this time in a ST2 car and not a slow ST Grand-Am MX5. Would also like to run Road Atlanta, but both are long tows.

I think for this to work for some of us folks from the midwest you need to have the events spread out to get the biggest car counts. That December event at Road Atlanta would be great, since it is after our regular season ends. I am going to try to make that event this year.
