500KEG8 Posted December 8, 2011 Posted December 8, 2011 I'm currently setting up my car for AutoX, and potentially Time Attack next year. It's a '92 Civic Sedan with a B18. I'm staring to notice that my power steering rack might be on its way out. Most likely I'm just going to replace it and keep the power steering, but I'm also toying with the idea of switching to a manual rack. I felt another Civic with a manual rack and it wasn't too bad, even for a daily, just requires a bit more muscle around the parking lot. I would like to get some feedback whether any other FWD drivers prefer to run with or without power steering, on or off the track. The answer has been a little fuzzy when I've asked around other places, so I thought I'd ask people who can drive Thanks! Quote
Calif_Kid Posted December 9, 2011 Posted December 9, 2011 You might want to post your question in the HC (Honda Challenge) section in the Pro Racing section, plus maybe in the Road Racing/Autocross/Time Attack forum http://honda-tech.com/forumdisplay.php?f=19 in Honda-Tech (but it is a good idea to try searching for info in Honda-Tech before making the post, or people will tell you to search). Anyway, I've got a 2000 Civic hatch with a B18C running in HPDE in Nasa. It has a full cage etc., and is basically setup like a Honda Challenge H2 car. When I got it, it didn't have power steering, and it was a little tiring to drive in the slower corners. I ended up adding a Toyota MR2 electrical pump like what is shown in thread http://honda-tech.com/showthread.php?t=2528249. If you do just want to replace the PS pump, then the standard pump would be easiest and cheapest, but the electrical pump would save a few HP but be more expensive to setup, plus the fluid is more expensive. Anyway, take a look at the Honda Challenge forum and maybe post there plus search and post in Honda-Tech. - Jim Quote
ILIKETODRIVE Posted December 9, 2011 Posted December 9, 2011 I have a '94 Integra that I removed the PS pump and all associated lines with it. I then looped the PS rack (sans a breather) like RTR did back in the day on their ITR (same fittings and all). Love it. With a 350mm wheel I have no issue turning the car in slow corners or around the paddock. Quote
