[email protected] Posted December 11, 2011 Posted December 11, 2011 OK I am planning to build a new motor over the winter for my 1995 AI or AIX want a be cobra. I am not sure what to go with. I am thinking about three options. Looking to get suggestions and ideas. Please note that whatever I go with I will start with a Boss or Dart block. I have been talking with my engine builder and we are thinking about a 331,347 or 363. The motor will be carbed. I am looking to acheive about 500+ HP's as I would rather de-tune than not have enough HP's. Any advice? Regards Quote
gbrown8439 Posted December 12, 2011 Posted December 12, 2011 I would pick a class and build your new motor to those rules. 500RWHP will be too much to de-tune for AI and not enough for AIX. If you are seriously thinking AIX then plan for a power adder to get you up to a competitive HP level. That will require a lower compression motor and much stronger parts than what you will need in an AI motor. Quote
robbodleimages Posted December 12, 2011 Posted December 12, 2011 why have you decided to do the things you say you want to do? as gb has mentioned your number dont fit well into the current classes very well. at present the best and most developed ford racing motor for our usage is the boss 302 crate motor. plug and play. D Algozine Posted December 12, 2011 Posted December 12, 2011 (edited) I believe Greg is correct. 500 hp is too much for AI and not enough for AIX. If you are inquiring about an AI engine that is inexpensive, relialbe, push rod, carb'd motor, the 4 bolt main Windsor Boss block is good, or a 351 block. I would not recommend a stock 302 block. They are 2 bolt mains and the webbing at the mains is weak. Edited December 16, 2011 by Guest Quote
bmrracing Posted December 16, 2011 Posted December 16, 2011 If you are going for AIX the minimum is a 427. You need to build it to make at least 650RWHP You can go either all motor or go with a Turbo if you do turbo plan for 850hp Thats what Chris and Paul have on tap. Quote

Hey now, why do we have to use a 427?? I'm making that with 281CI and a turbo. Quote
[email protected] Posted December 18, 2011 Author Posted December 18, 2011 Thanks all for the advice, I've been talking to Troy at FPS and I think we may have a package looking at a couple of option. I think we are going to do a 358 @ about 800+ Quote

[email protected] Posted December 19, 2011 Author Posted December 19, 2011 I will be running in the Northeast, Quote
AJ Hartman Posted December 29, 2011 Posted December 29, 2011 Nice to see you running in the NE! I run in the NE in AI and our director is Al Watson. Super cool guy so if you have any questions feel free to ask me or him. Now I'm going to try and convince you to run AI instead of AIX haha. Aside from being easier on the wallet, AI car counts are up which makes the racing a lot more fun. There are a few AIX cars around but not many. Either way I hope to see you out there soon! Quote
