You must ask for them shaved when you order them though. they don't do it on site (at least the one in folsom doesn't) Quote

Calif_Kid Posted December 25, 2011 Posted December 25, 2011 For buying the Toyo tires, probably best to search around / call and see what you find as far as places and prices. I'm in Northern California, but needed to by some wheels (Enkei RPF1 15x7 ET35 offset) along with some 225/45-15 RA1's, so I ended up buying everything as a package from Phil's Tire service http://www.philstireservice.com back east as their price on the wheels and the tires were pretty good, and shipping wasn't too bad, and the California sales tax (over 9%) wasn't added on. Main thing is you'll probably need to try searching to find what the current best prices are. I found the following info in Honda-Tech (there's a Road Racing/Autocross/Time Attack froum that has good info including Honda Challenge) - I'm not sure if all of the links are still valid, plus there could be other places selling the tires with good prices. - Jim Here are some of the dealers selling Toyo tires, particularly their R compound tires: Canada BC 1010tires.com http://www.1010tires.com 888-825-MAGS Canada BC TireTrends.com http://www.tiretrends.com 877-920-TIRE Canada QC Talon http://www.talontire.com 514-337-0833 U.S. CA AIM Tires http://www.aimtire.com 707.938.9193 U.S. CA Les Schwab http://www.lesschwab.com U.S. CA OnLineTires.com http://www.onlinetires.com 877-465-8473 U.S. DE Sports Car Tire http://www.sportscartire.com 800-752-TIRE U.S. GA Treadepot http://www.treadepot.com 888-421-TIRE U.S. IL Frisby Performance Tire http://www.frisbyracetire.com 800.798.7201 or 1.847.244.7050 U.S. IL TireDeals4Less.com http://www.TD4L.com 888-598-9200 U.S. IL Vilven Tire http://www.vilventires.com 800-251-0017 or 888-77-KUMHO U.S. MD Radial Tire http://www.radialtire.com 301-585-2740 U.S. NY Phil's Tire Service 845-429-8943 U.S. PA CJ's Tires http://www.cjtire.com 610-404-0224 U.S. PA The Tire Shoppe http://www.thetireshoppe.com 866-208-6551 U.S. SC Bob Woodman Tires http://www.bobwoodmantires.com 843-571-2277 U.S. TN Appalachian Race Tire http://www.racetire.com 865-681-6622 ???? ?? tanjulio Posted January 6, 2012 Author Posted January 6, 2012 Thank you for the information. ALSO; I just wanted to know why we "shave tires". Thanks to everyone for the information Quote
Leland Posted February 7, 2012 Posted February 7, 2012 Thank you for the information. ALSO; I just wanted to know why we "shave tires". Thanks to everyone for the information i figured someone would have replied by now but i guess not. from my experience on my first set of RA1s that im running now and started from full tread is that they are really really squirmy which causes some slow lap times. oh and they squeal like none other. ive been told shave to 4/32 is the best. either way i hear heat cycle once and let cure over night. One heat cycle yes, don't pound on them during that 1st heat cycle. Get them up to operating temp gradually. Then let them cool gradually. Take them off the car, or jack the car up and cover them with a blanket or something similar. Minimum 24 hours (just overnight doesn't cut it). The longer the better ( a few days or week is much better). If you can't break them in like this - don't bother doing anything, just run them. Quote
Rob O Posted February 10, 2012 Posted February 10, 2012 Is it possible to do the first heat cycle on street or highway driving? I'm new to the Toyo R compound..... Quote
philstireservice Posted February 12, 2012 Posted February 12, 2012 Is it possible to do the first heat cycle on street or highway driving? I'm new to the Toyo R compound..... Nope - you'll never get enough heat into the tire on the street. Quote
