"Evil Queen of TT numbers"

Recommended Posts

I am up early and having paid all the bills that have hit my desk (I think) I decided to take a look at some numbers from the NASA-SE TT 2011 program. It also keeps me from heading to the shop to work on putting in insulation/interior sheathing now that the electrical work is in and fixing broken race cars.

Approximately 140 drivers competed in TT in the Southeast. 39 new track records were set in 2011. Two new tracks, NCCAR and Talledaga Gran Prix Racetrack, were run in 2011. TTS had the most competitors with 39 making a lap and TTF had the fewest with only 4 competitiors all season. TTR, TTU, TTS, TTA and TTB all had over 20 compete during the season.

35 drivers only made one event. The vast majority of the one hit wonders were at Road Atlanta. On the other end of the spectrum 3 drivers competed in seventeen events, 2 made sixteen events and 1 did fifteen. 30 drivers made two events, 5 made three, 14 made four, 6 made five, 9 made six, 3 made seven, 6 made eight, 3 made nine, 3 made ten, 1 made eleven, 1 made twelve, 3 made thirteen and 1 made fourteen events.

In total 15 drivers completed sessions in ten or more events. Keeping a car maintained and making it to that many race weekends says a lot for those drivers. Almost half of the drivers (~65) only did one weekend.

There are also ~10 drivers given checkrides who never completed their provisionals (never went out in any TT sessions) in 2011. No idea how many provisionals were cleared in 2011 - but it was a lot of them.

No matter the numbers the bottom line is we had a lot of fun in 2011 and the 2012 season is about to start!

Cool.

Those high numbers in TTS must be attributed to RA racing crossovers???

Is there a way to figure out who drove the most laps for the entire season? That person should get the endurance award.

Nice job Jeff.

With very few exceptions, the quality of TT drivers in the SE is exceptional and I truly mean that. I honestly believe NASA should require at least 6 TT weekends in any region before being eligible for comp school as it's a great place to develop all of your skills. Some of those skills are obviously lacking by those who skipped the TT program.

It does take a lot to maintain a car to run a full season and it can be exhausting on it's driver physically and economically, but the rewards make it all worth it. Good times with good friends is what it's all about (and a podium every now and then).

Congrats to all those who participated in the TT program this year. I'm sure '12 will be just as fun and rewarding.

Sounds like another "I'm running stock swaybars this time" kind of statement...
