Stang107 Posted December 28, 2011 Posted December 28, 2011 Last October I had a rather big off at Buttonwillow through the "Talladega" sweeper (cw track direction) when the car suddenly hooked to the left at high speed. It seems like the car slide forever but fortunately didn't roll and aside from ripping of the front bumper cover/splitter there was no damage When I got home it was clear the the outside edge of the left front tire had come into contact with the fender which I'm pretty sure slowed that wheel and pivoted the car. I had recently lowered the front splitter about 1cm and lowered the MM coilovers by two turns. And...i had my foot pretty well planted so the splitter was providing downforce pushing the nose down along with the left side weight transfer. I've rolled the fender lip and pulled out the fender as far as I can. What are you SN95 guys doing to get get more tire clearance? I'm hoping to find a reasonably low cost (alright....cheap) solution and not have to buy wide fenders from Paul Brown over at Tiger Racing or have a body shop add flares. I need to remove about 1 1/2 inches above the stock fender line and have looked at using Miata bolt/rivet on flares but they may be too small. Has anyone out there solved this problem on a 1994/95 Mustang? Thanks - Marty Quote
marshallmosty Posted December 29, 2011 Posted December 29, 2011 I'm about to graft 280Z flares on my FOX. http://www.thezstore.com/page/TZS/PROD/7BSA02/50-1562 Quote
edhunter Posted December 29, 2011 Posted December 29, 2011 Marshall; they fit pretty nicely out of the box... I've got the same ones front and rear... Quote
marshallmosty Posted December 30, 2011 Posted December 30, 2011 Ed, How did you mount them and do you know how much additional tire clearance they provided? I'm not too worried about my front track width, but my rear has to grow by 2" per side and I'm pretty close with the stock flared quarters. Quote
edhunter Posted December 30, 2011 Posted December 30, 2011 Marshall - the picture above is from last year with the track width at 73" front, 72" rear. I put them on with large headed rivets and a thin bead of caulk on the seams. I cut the stock fenders back considerably, you can see where the front flare touches the fender seam at the top. I'm widening my track, so no idea how well I can get them to cover the tires now... havent' made it that far. I doubt the rear flares will cover the wider track width and will probably have to replace with something else... A couple more pics of the rear... Showing how much of the fender I cut off... Quote
marshallmosty Posted December 30, 2011 Posted December 30, 2011 Ed, Thanks for the pics. I'm thinking I might need to add stretcher bars to the inside of the rear quarter and push out the sheetmetal. I'll play with it and see what I can get. 74.5" will be tough for us... Quote
