Legal Modifications for ST

Hi All,

I am potentially building a ST1 or ST2 car and a little confused by the rules for modifications. Is it as simple as it seems, that pretty much anything goes as long as you meet the safety requirements? Windows are mentioned as lexan is not allowed, can side windows be completely removed? Can I completely gut the interior/wiring or anything else not required for safety or keeping the car running? Are manufacturer engine swaps allowed (i.e. I have a Jaguar and want to put a Chevy engine and transmission in)?

Sorry if these are repeat questions on the forum, but all I could find was some dash related questions, which it appears the final answer there is the stock dash can be removed, is this correct?

Thanks all, just want to get this clarified before I start spending too much money.

From stuff that I did to my PTE car and stuff that I know our regional director did to his ST2 car:

-I removed my door windows since my cage protrudes into the door

-He removed his rear window since he could per ST rules

-I removed any/all wiring not associated with the car running (AC/radio/trailer wiring/3rd brake lamp/wipers/antenna/etc)

-I removed everything cosmetic inside the car except the dash

-He did that and replaced the factory dash with one he fab'd out of aluminum per ST rules

I think you can swap a Chevy engine into your Jag. I'm pretty sure I've seen a Miata running around with an LS1 in ST2 or ST1. I'm 100% positive you could if you did SU.

Power is power, badges on the engine or car don't need to match. Go as crazy as you dare!

There are a few things you can't touch that are specifically spelled out in the ruleset - frame rails and floorpan are the big ones, though there are others too - but you're on the right track, it is a pretty wide open ruleset out of those handful of "untouchable" items.

STR1 & 2 are even more open in that their list of untouchable items is even shorter (iirc, they may not even have a list of items you can't modify actually... )

Thanks for the replies, that helps with my progress. Hopefully I will be racing this spring.

I do have a question........

What is considered the floorpan? Personally, I define it as the section of floor from the bottom of the firewall to the rear seat kick-up. Is that correct? It does not include the rear seat panel does it? I want to make sure I understand before I start building the car...

Lexan is allowed and you can gut as much as you want. Engine swaps are fine... There were some 944's with LS engines out there in ST.
